No Gateway Effect - Another Pot Myth Busted?

there is a lot of talk about marijuana being a gateway drug and I've thought long and hard over my own experience, and find they've gotten it wrong again.

i'd like to hear other's experience and see if we can come up with any ideas for how to get the message accross to mainstream society.

I do not think the media is fairly portraying us or the fight we're in to be seen as we really are. I'd like to change that.

After I had already been smoking pot I was re-introduced to a friend's mom, who's biker boyfriend was staying over, and they were both obviously under the influence of something that made them seem to be happy and very talkative. Okay, thinking back to that time, which was about thirty years ago, I remember very clearly wanting to taste that lifestyle, and sex had more to do with it than pot.

So, from my experience, I would say that marijuana was not a gateway drug, but that the behavours and lifestyles that I witnessed and wanted to model, were.

Anyone else believe that Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug, and have any ideas on how to get this fine distinction accross to the world? This is exactly why the straights would (should) prefer that this substance be in BevMo instead of a dealers living room.

i had my first cig and my first drink at 14 before i even considered smokin the reefer but that first time was life-changing, i have experimented with other drugs since i started smokin but not too much ive only really done blow and pills and a small amount of DMT, never tripped although i would like 2 and the hardest drug ive ever done is prolly OC and i hate it.

i dont think that me smokin weed had anything to do with me trying these other drugs i just think its more about the people that u associate with

The gateway effect is absolutely real. Find me even one single case where psyclobin mushroom use preceded regular mushroom use. Not even a single case. Therefore my grocery store is selling gateway mushrooms.

haha at first I thought you were serious. Grocery stores are gateway sellers to all drugs. I bought some OJ a year ago now I'm on hard liquor!

Now that you mention it I had OJ long before my first toke...

i think its just a case of most people that use harder drugs also smoke weed but the powers that be try to demonise it by saying " its not just a case of they use other drugs and coincidentally smoke weed as well, weed is the gateway drug that leads onto the harder drugs"

I have to agree with mr2shim. The movie "The Union" does do a good job of explaining the true gateway effect. Basically it shows that because pot is sold on the black market alongside other illegal substances, users are more likely to be offered the hard drugs and therefore more likely to try them. Without the black market, the "stepping stone" dissapears.

ok, people, we know that the feds aren't giving up without a fight, and we know only nine million of the 36 million people who could vote will vote, so if you're registered be sure to get out there, it's not going to pass without us.

and to counter the effects of the lies on TV we should all post ourselves on youtube to simply state what's true about this - keep it simple - make the statement that it's not a gateway drug, and that other stuff you said...
