Night Lite colors

so for working at "night time" during the flowering cycle, ive seen green lights reccommended. However, if you are growing a strain that has a really dark/purple (IE Blackwater) hue to it, wouldnt a purple or "blacklight" bulb be the way to go?

No. Take a look at the chart below to understand how plants process the different light spectrums:

Yup, nada Bro. Stick to green bulbs with true green spectrum light. Some chinese flashlights/headlamps etc will use white light painted faintly green. That will herm your shit. AMERICA.

That's why you should use LED (they do come from china) lamps, as they have a very specific light frequency and won't spill into other spectrum like and incandescent with a colored filter.

True, when people want to work in their grow rooms at night they use special green lightbulbs that have zero effect on the plants photosynthesis.. You see from the light chart the main colors of light to complete photosynthesis are red and blue.. if you were to expose a plant to this at night, it would mess up the photosynthesis.. however I do it quite a bit lol. There has been a long arguement on the use of blacklights for growing, if you're interested search for it here on RIU, I read articles for hours before I decided they were useless lol.

I read one time that there was a guy using blacklights at night intermittently through his grow to give off the impression of the moon phases. Some advice, if you do begin to click around this forum, do so cautiously. Pick one good grower with proven results who has a well documented journal with many pictures. Follow their method closely. Taking several methods and putting them together may often end up in bad consequences.

That sounds exactly like the thread I read.. but the arguement still continues that blacklights provide no useable spectrum for a marijuana plant. Still an interesting read though. He said it boosted tric production also
