NFT - roots question

eh up.

on my first ever NFT grow, and things going well so far. Two plants, responding well to where we put the light and about to go into flowering mode.

using a NFT system with sloping tray above a nutrient tank. we have matting down, and everything seems ok.

but one plant, an A.M.S variety from the greenhouse in amsterdam, looked a touch odd, so i looked up the details on here (this site has been amazing!!) and it suggests too much nutrient.

the other seems fine, but i had a look and flushed the system.

one thing i think might be the problem - the roots.

they are long, got a very good spread, but they have grown over the sides of the tray and the roots are now hanging down into the nutrient solution at the bottom of the tank.

surely, this cannot be good?

how do I solve this problem? i assume i cannot cut the roots?

this is the system i am using, in a big grow box/tent thing.

as i said, it all looks fine-ish. i am just worried about this.

all help very much appreciated.

cheers.

Tuff-les.
