What's up clones (yes that's a Jim Rome reference, welcome to the jungle), this is a thread to post any pics of your Alibaba QB chips for community help and verification.

I'm putting Rita on blast. Or whoever is behind the keyboard. If you buy from Rita Fang, she will tell you they are s6 but then expect the moon to prove they aren't.

If anyone out there wants to do a test on my chips hmu, I'm willing to pay a little for your time. Chiefrunningphist is on the war path.

Where she's trying to asess my aptitude and how much she can pull the veil over my eyes, lol accuses me of working for Samsung :clap:...

Anyone have any Rita issues? If so how were they resolved?

Are you completely sure that a visible black dot/zenner diode is smoking gun proof of the diodes arent S6? That means that noone could show a black dot diode in a strip from digikey and since we got plenty of people here using them it shouldnt be too hard to get them to check. As far as i know the black dot test comes from here in the led section and is based on visual inspection of a mere handfull of diodes.

Also, if they are S5 are you sure the switch is made by Meijiu/rita or if it is their supplier selling them as S6 rather than S5?


Theres ways of discerning lm561c from b without looking for dots. The yellow bit in the middle of the orange phosphor looks slightly different, smaller in lm561c if i remember right.

And why do you care so much if they are s6 or s5? They both do the work and if you can get 2 (or even 3!) boards at the price of one S6 id say youre still getting ahead.

This whole situation is to be expected when you buy direct from china; not being able to ascertain bin without some hefty and expensive tests with literally no support from the seller.

And agree also that if it's S5 that it could be a swap outside of Ritas control but she scolded me and tried to act like I was crazy for asking about them. Then won't sell me another so I can test? How do you defend that?

We all know theyre not S6 so why try to shove that at people. Would like to know the components in the circuit. I don't think that's to much to ask.

Or maybe they are S6 and I'm a huge ass lol but I won't know until they're tested. Which ill be refunded for 10x over if they aren't so that's an $1800 upside to testing as well as putting the whole debate to rest. Or at least giving some real data to the community.

If @CobKits already tested them I missed it. Maybe he can tell me how big an ass I am haha

Now either digi-key has just randomly selected diodes that fit what every other LED guru has stated on this forum or else otherwise it seems that I definitely don't have S6, but maybe S5...

What you think? I spent a couple hundred, they can't at least say it's a possibility they're S5?

Did you read the back and forth? Do you think that everything's on the up and up? She attacked me when I sent her pictures and asked about them. Then refused to sell me one so I could test?

I run them (4 of them) at 1320mA, 142w/QB. Temps under 115f. So only about 5,000lm (white light) loss.

I guess I'm the only guy that feels this way.

Sounds like you should be buying from hlg if you care that much...you made a stupid choice own up to it an stop crying it's funny you want people that sell lights to test stuff for you so you can buy from someone else.

Hey doosh idgaf who tests them. If you bought 91 but they put 85 in your car you'd be pissed.

If I bought s6 from HLG and they were s5 I'd want them tested, applehead.

There were some threads about the visible difference.
The tests done previous were on boards from other Chinese companies. Not where you got yours, but point was ask cobby to test them. Then you know.
@Randomblame might remember more about the visible difference
I've been pointed in the s5 direction by a few, some that you mentioned.

So you want them tested no matter what but you don't want to spend time or money testing them? Haha she didn't sell you any because your not worth the time. Oh and when multiple people tell you it's not s6 that's not good enough you need more reasons haha what a joke you are. BTW have you ever grown before?

Oh yeah the car anology I love those I try not to buy gas from the shady little stations if shell or Chevron gave me the wrong gas I would be mad if the shitty cheap station gave me the wrong gas I would blame myself for buying from them

That's data was supplied long ago you just missed it... Wow you really need to work on your insults. Good luck on your first grow.
Oh and why even use lm561c? If you care about effeciency at least use the newest diode

First step, download the LM561C and LM561B+ datasheets.

Second step, measure your diodes with a micrometer or vernier scale to ensure they are the same as spec.

Third step, fire up the boards and measure voltage and current to the board.

EDIT: And after all that, I was wrong - there is a physical difference between the two in the dies (B+ = smaller)

Some LM561B+ will just just as efficient as some LM561C LEDs (same Vf and Flux bins). But the best B+s won't be as good as the best Cs, and on the whole (average) the B+s will be lower efficiency than the Cs - which is reflected in the forward voltage specs.

The bottom line is, if they have a higher voltage drop - which you can test yourself using a multimeter - they are likely LM561B+. But the only way to know if they are S6 or lower is to sphere test them.

Here's a tip: LM561C and LM561B+ are actually the same diode. Yes, you read that correctly.

When Samsung - or any other manufacturer - casts a LED, there are tolerances associated with the manufacturing process. Small variations lead to different Flux outputs and different voltage drops for the same current. The LM561B+ is in fact an LM561C but with a higher voltage drop - which makes it a less efficient (and hence less desirable and cheaper) LED. One is rated at 200mA (LM561C) and the other at 180mA (LM561B+) for this reason.

You cannot tell the difference by looking at them physically. Don't believe me?

Look at the spec sheets and point out the differences in physical dimensions. There are none.

Now look at the same spec sheets and point out the differences in Flux bins. There are none. (Actually there are, but only in 2700K.)

Now look at the same spec sheets and point out the differences in voltage bins. BINGO!

Now go back and test your boards and if the voltage drop is higher than the LM561C AZ voltage bin, it is an LM561B+ . . . or is it?

LM561B+ also has an AZ voltage bin. And an A1 (same as LM561C).

Fact is, they are the same LED divided into different batches and given different name codes.

First cut - those within tolerance - are LM561C, and within that designation are different Flux, colour and voltage bins.

Second cut - those mostly out of LM561C tolerance - are labelled LM561B+, and within that designation are different Flux, colour and voltage bins of equal or lower quality or efficiency compared to the above.

Some LM561B+ will just just as efficient as some LM561C LEDs. But the best B+s won't be as good as the best Cs, and on the whole (average) the B+s will be lower efficiency than the Cs - which is reflected in the forward voltage specs.

I did this test, hold on.. It was the first thing I sent her...


"The drivers came and these were the measurements of the Folite Plus QB304+ with 660nm.

1200mA read 107.2v at begining cool temperatures, and settled @ 105.0v after the board equalized its passive resting temp of 155°F.

107.2v ÷ 38

2.82v

I added (4) 1.44w 7cm×7cm fans ontop of the heatsink (from what I can tell seems to be similar to a slate 1, a slate 2 is what I'd want in the future) and continued testing.


1200mA + (4) 1.4w fans = 106°F
1280mA + (4) 1.4w fans = 109°F
1320mA + (4) 1.4w fans = 112°F

1320mA measured 108.2v initially and settled @ 107.7v while reaching a final resting temp of 112°F (with fans).

1320mA ÷ 8
~
165mA

108.2 ÷ 38
~
2.85v

1.32A × 107.7v
~
142w"

The only thing is I've been advised there's low voltage b's & b+'s???

I too noticed the 180mA vs 200mA in the data sheets when I looked them over.

I told her I was an engineer. :mrgreen:
