Howdy
I have recently decided to start growing bud in my apartment. I want to experiment with different kinds of bud. I live in a small apartment so i am worried about the smell. I was considering buying a bubble ponics system from seattle hydroponics. I was also considering buying a mobile dark room for about 80 dollars. It is about the size of a speaker box 18 inches by 18 inches by 40 inches ( 18x18x40). However after finding this site i think i will build a grow box. I also dont know jack about growing as i recently started smokeing.
Does anyone hae any recomendation as to weather i should build or buy my equipment. I alos wanted to know how effective a charchoal filter system is.
thanks

all strains smell, so get a exhaust fan and carbon filter.
sativas grow tall and skinny, take longer to finish flowering
indicas grow short and bushy

filters are extremely efficient as long as you have a sealed system and your filter can hold more cfm than your pulling trough it start with soil and build a good system you can always go hydro once you get the cash
and as far as strains go start with bag seed or if your legal go to a dispensary and get a clone

ok first of all
thanks for the advice.
second of all
IM SORRY.
let me tell you how dumb i am
this was my first post and i just now realized how to go to my roll it up and find it again
i have since read a lot and learned a lot
but i still dont know sh*t compared to you guys.
but let me tell you what i did.
i built a bubble ponics system with rubermaid tub and 5'' baskets.
i was gonna put 4 in 1 tub (seemed a little tight) but after reading som posts i think i will only do two and try for higher yields.
i will use:
sun hut 4x4x7
active air 6'' 400cfm in line duct fan for exhaust (is that enough?)
i havent chosen a charcoal filter yet (im growig in a 1 bdrm apt so odor is a major concern for me)
a hydrofan variable speed fan controll
a 400x mh for vegg
600w hps for flower
xtrasun 6 air cooled reflector
i got 2 bag seeds in my germination station under flourescents (2 of 3 have sprouted)
i just got seeds but havent decided what i will grow first:
Northern lights=because someone told me that was the best (i dont know never had anything but normal everyday shit)
Blue mystic=because it is advertised as having a nuetral smell even in flower (as i said odor is a major concern for me)
kaya gold=its advertised as newbie proof(very sturdy plant that is forgiving of rookie mistakes)

mmmm
what do you guys think?
can i do this with no significant odor?
how loud will it be?
how the hell do i hook up the fan and the speed controll?
and did i make good choices on equipment etc
thanks for your help and time

I don't understand why people bother with grow tents, they just cause problems. I also think you should stick to one strain for now.

I was going to buy a grow tent but they are pricey and after I see you say this.. please explain why? I think I may attempt to just build something.

It is amazing what you can do with Panda Film, a tarp zipper and some 1x4"s. My son built my grow tent and with my 600w cool tube, 6" fan the cost was around $500.

I do love HTG

Shit I have no idea if it's made in China or not.. there are so many different ones. certainly they are not ALL made in China.

Thanks for the post.
as for the strains
i only plan on growing one ata a time for my first few cycles. I just couldnt decide so i ordered all 3

i just put the reasons why i chose each up so peole would understand my rational for choosing each.
i recently saw a bubble system you are describing. However, i built the bubble ponics system a week or so ago just for fun. I wasnt even planing on growing. My research ledm e to this site which got me excited to try it out(growing).
I always apreciate the advice you guys give. THanks and keep it coming

I considered building one as well. hOWEVER,
odor is my biggest concern. I wanted to eliminate as many unknowns or variables as i could. This is my first grow so i am trying to account for all the rookie mistakes i will make. So to me it was worth the $189.00 for the 4x4x7 grow tent. It also has a solid metal frame (not the plastic pipes like most)
that helped me make the decision.
when i looked at the panda film i didnt want to buy it for $100 and then have to figure out how to make it fight AIRtiGHT on my growbox. I felt like this would be biteing off more than i can chew. The panda film was $100 by itself plus the cost of the box. Not really much savings
and i know im not handy enough to build one
so i took the easy route and bought it

maybe after i pop my cherry i will be ably to build a system as good as yours(or if i suddenly find out i have a son that has carpentry skills) ..... :)
So i understand the experienced peoples feelings that it is a waste but try to remember back when you first started, it probably didnt seem so simple then.
i would just calculate your ACTUALL savings and decide is building your own worth the extra $50 you save

You could always save that hundred bucks and paint the one you build with white paint.. I dunno. I'm torn really. It's just a hell of a lot easier to buy one I guess. I don't even know when I'll find time to even build one. The debate is on!
