I'm a first time grower and have a few random questions. Your responses are greatly appreciated!( I'm growing in a closet that is 6ft H.x4ft W.x2ft 6in deep, under my basement stairs where outside ventilation is impossible) Because I don't want to raise my electrical bill too much so I want to use LED's. Any suggestions on brands or types? Since ventilation is damn near impossible, would it work if I used CO2 and a fan in the closet and no ventilation?

you should look into cfl's instead. ive never researched much on the led's but i saw a post a while back on a different forum where the dude dropped 3 grand for a complete led system. everyone says its the future, but thats completely out of most peoples price range. best thing to do is research it. i had only used mh/hps for a while, but went out and got a few daylight cfl's for clones, and they work awesome. i dont have outside ventilation either, but how i have ventilated ever since i moved into this place is i have a like 2x2 square fan that sits at the floor of the door jam blowing inwards (it fits perfectly in the door) and right above that i have a little round 1x1 fan mounted on the ceiling blowing outwards. so pretty much the fan blowing out of the room is sucking up heat from the hps and the one blowing in the bottom is supplying fresh air, which all plants love. i run a 1000w system in like an 8x6 floor area and this keeps the room between 70 and 80 degrees at all times. i havent had a summer in this apartment yet, so i dont know how well that will work when it heats up but its perfect for cooler weather. hope that helps some.

My understanding is LEDs are very expensive to buy compared with HIDs (and both are pricey compared with CFLs). So if you are worried about money, LEDs may not be the way to go. If you are worried about just the electric bill going up - then i'm inclined to think you are growing in a house that someone else owns/lives in without their permission. If this is the case, I'm not going to judge you but will say if you think keeping the electric bill a secret is hard - wait until you try to cover up the noise from the fans and even more so the smell of marijuana growing. It is very pungent and can be hard to control. So make sure you have an odor-control plan in place.

one other head's up - you have to be able to get fresh air into the space and expel hot, smelly air.

NO LED's . waste of money . use cfls if your low on budget . i have a 400w mh and a 75w mh and just recently put 8 23/100 6500k cfls in and ive noticed a little faster growth from the plants under the cfls. even though the ones under the mh are more defined.

cfls and a hps..... i used more power flowering with cfls then when i got my hps.... Cfls are awesome for veg but nothing beats the hps.....i have the same measurements in my closet and i'm using a 250w hps,,,,,i usually leave the door cracked to release the hot air,,, but it usually never get above 90

Just go buy a 400w lamp dude its cheaper then you would think if its set up right. CFL would be ok I supose but even after you buy all those CFL lights then sockets you could have bought a nice 400w MH/HPS. Unless your growing in an apartment CFL is wack IMO
