My first attempt at a growing will be a closet dwc garden no bigger than 2'X3'. I have two major concerns. The first is spending too much money on things that i don't need or are too powerful. My other concern is that in my haste to save some cash i might buy something ineffective or simply crappy. I know that sounds contradicting but plan on improvising on everything except for things that i absolutely cannot improvise (i.e. lights, nutrients, pumps, etc.)

so first order of business are lights (since there goes my biggest chunk of budget).

this is the light system i'm currently considering:
Sunleaves Pulsar Two-Way Mini grow light system from 4 hydroponics.com by Growco Indoor Garden Supply

It is a rather compact system that allows and includes both MH and HPS lights. too much? not enough? Any better or more suitable light systems that you guys might suggest would be greatly appreciated.

As for nutrients

does anyone have a brand that they feel work exceptionally well? or for that matter anyone know of a brand that I should under all circumstances stay way from?

I was looking at B.C. grow, bloom and boost nutrients in particular. Also, how much should i get? the site I'm looking at shows them in 1L, 4L, 10L, 20L options.

The last thing keeping my up at nights is Mylar. My walls are already off white. Is it necessary? useless? simply a good investment?

Well that's all i can think of right now. I'll post more q's when they come.

To grow on the cheap, go with just a HPS and use it throughout. I've heard that you can get a better deal at High Tech Garden Supply. One with a separate ballast will be lighter in weight to hang, and you can put the ballast outside of the room. Don't worry about mylar, paint with flat white paint.
Hydro nutes are mostly good, I've never used BC, but whatever you use just follow the directions, and adjust the pH.

thx for the tip guys. i'll have to check them out. anyway i live in an apartment which means i can't paint my walls as they'd probably charge me for it. whereas mylar i can just take down.
