Im using CFLs at the minute. Ive got a 600w dual spectrum hps light and was just wondering when to put that on. They are 1 week old looking alright to be fair. Any ideas?

Pics help.

Soil I assume? What are your temps?

Seedlings or clones? More information would be helpful, but generally once the plants have had a week or two under CFL's and have started to show some real growth, they are ready.

But are you going to veg them under the 600 HPS? Or flower them right away?

If you are going to veg them more, they are gonna stretch under 600 watts HPS...

But if you don't veg them more, they may not yield a lot if they are still small heading into flower.

How many plants/how big is your area/what's your goal for yield?

ive got my week old plants under a 400watt hps dual spectrum and although the lights a bit further away than i'd like the plants are fine.

Aint got a camera. guess i'll have to get one.
Soil is terra pro plus. Temp = 68 F. Seedlings.
I was gonna veg them for a couple more weeks. How come they will stretch?
6 Plants. 2m (W) x 1.5m (D) x 2.5 m (H).
Haven't got a goal. just gonna see what happens ;)

How come they will stretch?

Because an HPS bulb shoots out a lot more red spectrum light than blue, which encourages stem growth (stretching).

If you can keep the lights as close to the plant as possible, it will stretch less. But don't put them too close, or you will burn them.

If I were you, I would let them veg to around 1-1.5 feet tall and then flower them. You have plenty of space. It will take more time (3-4 weeks of vegging) but your yield will be better than if you flower sooner.

cheers mate. the bulb i got from the hydro shop has blue and red spectrum light. does this help?

Somewhat, are you air cooling the light? Use your hand under the bulb, hold your hand right at the tops of the plants. If it feels like "a day at the beach" warm on your hand it's ok. For a 600 watt that's not air cooled, you can still get it real close like 12-16" at most I would imagine. I grow with 1000 watters so I am not 100% sure on a 600 no experience there.

ill have a look about. i was hoping to get them straight on the hps.

No camera on your phone or anything?

You can put them right into the HPS but...when they are young they need to be further from the light, when they're further from the light, they stretch a lot more which isn't a good use of your growing area.

what is the yield like on white widow?
Also got some free seeds called big bud. u tried it?

Do you know where the seeds come from?

White Widow is generally a very good yielding plant. I have never grown pure White Widow, but I do have a strain (Moby Dick) that is White Widow crossed with Haze and I was able to yield one ounce per plant in ebb and flow (hydro) under 1000 watts straight from rooted clone to flower (no veg time).

I have not tried it but I know a little about it. It's basic genetics are indica (Skunk and Northern Lights). Should also be a good yielding plant. However, the white widow is a sativa which want to grow tall and the Big Bud is an indica that stay short, so you might not want to grow them at the same time.

iSiSiSiS the I's (indica) might get overwhelmed and shaded by the S's (sativas). If that makes sense.
