Newbie mind explosion

I have never grown before and am getting ready to attempt in a couple weeks. i have been researching like crazy. at first i was all about hydro cuz of what i had read but after awhile i decided against hydro atleast for the time being only because of cost. i found these really cool grow boxes but they are like 400 bucks most only hold 6 plants they do look perfect but maybe not wide enough to let them grow width wise and they arnt very tall 2-3 ft. so back on topic i decided to go with soil. i want to convert my spare bedroom into a grow room. ive been pricing lights and cfm fans and carbon filters and nutes and on and on and on. im having trouble piecing it all together in my find how everything will work. i saw a diy thread on making your own carbon ativated filters and decided a cheap 50 cfm fan should work for the smell. one of my bigger problems is trying to figure out how to bring the fresh air in. i live in south dakota and in the winter months it gets well below zero so bringing outside air in proly isnt a great idea. i am not a handy man at all but i hope to get my lights nutes ventalation seeds and everything else need for 500 bucks? is this possible. and any recomendations for extreamly high yeild indoor plant suggestion of course quality is a must.

i would not waste your money on that thing

the fan alone in the picture doesn't look like it would be anywhere near enough to cool it...

ya im not going to i thought it looked cool but not very pratical and way to expensive.
