Newbie indoor help

Hey guys just wanted to say great site and I love how it works. I am an avid outdoor grower that wants to move indoors. Mainly because of the cops (I live in the US and its harsh where I am). I would like to get everything handled for the move indoors as cheaply as possible as I just had some of my plot rummaged by raccoons (fucking hate them). If you guys could help me with the most simple setup for about 4-6 plants of some great bud it would be so helpful.

You should start a list of what you need to buy/prepare.

a room/area
lighting(HPS is the best way to go for that many plants)
nutrients/fertilizers
light timer
reflective material
good quality soil
perlite
pots
spray bottles

I dont know much so i dont know what else you will need.

gives us some clue as to what you are working with; room size and supplies you already have, maybe some estimate of how much money you have to spend.

Sorry about that should have been more specific. I am going to have a budget of about 1200 and my room size is roughly 12' by 12' (3.5 meters by 3.5 meters). I have some stuff from my outdoor growing but I have no lights, fertilizers, timer, reflective material, soil (I have some 9 month feeding soil that I usually use for outdoor), perlite, or spray bottles.

More complicated questions would be what sort of light and where can they be found (I have a wal-mart, lowes, home depot, and a few florist shops in my immediate area). What type of soil do I need, what type of reflective material works great. Much thanks guys I know this is alot of questions but moving from outdoor to indoor I now realize that I don't know much about this wild and crazy plant we love.

You're gonna need to order your lights online with a spae like that. You're gonna need powerful 600-100w hid lamps to make that size worthwhile and they don't sell lamps of that size at local hardware stores. Are you planning on splitting that room into 2 spaces using one for vegging/cloning? Either way in your flowering room you are going to want atleast 2 1000w hps lamps get them air cooled to avoid heat issues and get yourself a large carbon filter, you can really do alot with a space that size. Nutes are a personal thing and everyone will give you different opinions just find one that works for you. You can buy mylar and timers through the same online company you get your lights from and any high quality soil will do. If you are doing seperate rooms for vegging you will probably want some sort of mh lamp 400-1000w depending on how much room you designate for this room and how big your plans are. Thinking back on the mylar idea that could actually get expensive in a room that size I would just paint the walls with white bathroom paint (reflective and anti-fungal). I also suggest that you check out craigs list, you can get lamps on there pretty cheap if you get lucky, and if you are at all handy you can look to build your own ballasts for the lights which will save you money. This is a pretty large space so $1200 can actually go pretty fast, but just plan ahead on purchases and you should be able to get everything that you need. Also how tall is your room. Good luck

sorry I missed the 4-6 plants part. In a room that big you could grow 4-6 plants pretty huge assuming you have the height but you will only need 1 1000w lamp if that is all you are planning on growing. You could go with something smaller than the 1000w if you wanted but this will greatly enhance the grow and since you have so much room you won't have to worry about temps so much. If I had a space that big however I wouldn't waste it on 4-6 plants, but that is obviously for you to determine not me. So just let us know the height and if you are going to seperate out a veg room and we can help from there.

Regrets, first off thanks for all the information and help. In a few weeks/month I would love to post some pics to your credit. My ceiling is 8 feet high and I was wondering if I needed an entirely diff room for flowering. Also to get the plants to go into the flowering stage is there anything different compared to outdoor growing?

you will want your veg area to be light tight from the rest of the room because to induce flowering you have to put your ladies into 12/12 light and if you ahve light coming in from your veg room your plants will either be slow to enter flowering, they may not enter flowering, or they may hermie depending on how bad your light leaks are. Since you will be starting in veg you need to make your decision and do the work just before you put your first set into flowering. Your easiest bet would probably be to construct something like a closet in corner for your veg room, you probably won't need to much space so this should be relatively easy and inexpensive to pull off. If you are looking for some type of light proof sheeting at some point there is a product called panda sheet (or something similar) that is white on one side to reflect light in and black on the other so light does not escape. This stuff works great; mylar is NOT light proof so you cannot use that to seperate areas of your room. for 4-6 plants I would suggest also getting a 5 gallon bucket to hold water for your feedings, then get a water pump which you can find at home depot in the yard pond section which will keep your water moving and you can also use this with some tubing to feed your ladies or to fill your watering cans, this is an easy and effective way of aging/phing your water. I suggest that you also spend the money to get a good ph tester, I don't have one yet and I have had a hell of a time constantl checking ph with solution type testers and I have had some problems with ph fluctuation. You should always water your ladies at around 6.3 phed water (remember to check ph after you put your nutes in because a lot of nutes can drastically change your waters ph; mine brings it down to 4ish; not good). Let me know if you need anything else; I am far from all knowing on this subject but I have just recently had to deal with setting up something very similar so I still have it fresh in my mind. Good luck.
