Hi everyone,

Just starting to get into growing here, but I'm still unsure about exactly what type of potting mix/soil to look for. I live in Sydney, Australia and i was wondering if any other growers in Australia could recommend some tried and proven potting mixes. The ones i've been able to find in K-mart all seem to have timed released ferts which has been causing problems with my first set of plants that I experimented with.

I was thinking of going down to Bunnings and checking there, but there'll be an even bigger variety there and I'm still unsure what type of potting mix I should be looking for here in Australia.

Thanks in advance :joint::joint:

Just choose an expensive organic soil, make sure it doesn't have any nutrients in it, just add your own when the time comes. Mix it with perlite (30%) and vermiculite (30%) and you're ready to go

Two parts potting soil.

One part Perilite.

One part Vermiculite.

One part Worm Castings.

One SMALL handful of Granulated Dolomite Lime (stabilizes PH).

g,day mate, bunnings does have a large choice ,do what the other two guys said ,and dont but any thing with slow release stuff in it,but bunnings is cheaper if you buy the large bags of perlite ,and vermiculite ,the little ones cost far too much for what you get, dont know if they sell worm castings ,but you will find some ,lots of places sell them over in perth. regards blackout.

I agree that it doesn't really matter which brand you choose, but if you can, get sterilized soil. You don't want a bug problem.
