New way to vent rooms!?

I'm not sure if this is a new idea or if its just a dumb one, but here it goes... I was working on a job site when I realized that there isn't a trap on the sewer/septic main lines that come into a house. Seeing as the sewer lines on all buildings also vent through the roof in an airproof run, I was thinking that it could be possible to vent a graden into the sewer in the basement. I think it would work perfectly if you are already running an exhaust fan 24/7. Constant airflow from your garden into the sewer line would prevent sewer gas from coming back in, no? And all smell would be either sent down the pipes or ventined above the roof line. Edited post after I added a pic in my gallery of what i was thinking...

Started looking into this idea more. the water in the traps of the toilets and sinks of your house should keep the room air from exhausting back into your house at any point. And most sewer lines are already 4" pipe, so this might be worth tryng as an exhaust...

Sounds doable..

I would want some sort of 1 way flap that only lets air/sewage go out of room and into sewer.
Kinda like a one way air tight doggie door.

So for if some reason your fans (exhaust) stopped working you would not have sewer essence airreating your grow...
Or if worst case scenario the sewer backed up...

There was a tutorial for this on OG back in the day. Only concern to overcome is combustability of gases. If you bypass this problem then your money but every situation is differnt depending on age of sewer line and general upkeep of said sewer system.

or cause the pee trapped water to evaporate

might cause a siphoning air suction
dry your hands over the sink drain :-|

Air is just like electricity, in that it will follow the path of least resistance. unless you simotaniously plugged your sewer and vent , the water in the pee trap should stay put.

And as we speak gas is continuosly moving through the pipes(through vent), and I have never heard of a trap evapotating.

You can easly vent into a sewer stack, just use caution if you are doing it in the basement. The shower or sink on main floor uses same stack.

plumbing requires airflow to work. there are vents that allow for air flow. i think someone mentioned this....

if you vent out to the sewer vent (studor?) it will go out through the top of the sewer vent, and not into the sewer. these usualy go out to the roof, but a lot of homes have the studor in the wall instead; this would pump the air straight into the house...

make sure you know what your plumbing does...

yes but if your using a fan that will exchange your room, as the air is pushed through at the t mind you most vent pipe is 2" (theres a boost in pressure in i)self beings most small exchange fans are 4" or 6") its going to force its way to escape?? what way is that.?.through the roof vent and your drains,,,stands to reason....it'll force the water up through your sink or toilet or shower...its going to escape no doubt..
or at the t it will go up through the roof and cause a siphoning affect coming from the other way

either way i think your in for a stinky mess

If the vent diameter(2") restricts airflow upwards, wouldn't the air follow the path down the unrestricted sewer(4" to 36" within 60 ft of house), before forcing itself through water in a trap? I am not planning on using this system as my room is already well vented, but thought of it today at work and figured it would be a good topic for discussion.

gonna travel every which way I would imagine..

I dont think that most duct work is a 100% air tight..but plumbing venting is...you'd be surprised at the forces a 127 cfm fan can throw down a 100% sealed 2" pipe.... wouldn't be a potato gun, it would be a terd gun

Youd also have to take into consideration if your using a co2 system in a grow room as you will have your exhaust fan off during the injection times and for up to several hours afater before any air exchange so that might cause and issue with back flow as your room will be come a draw sucking air back to the room from an open vent pipe with presssurized air in the pipe looking for its exit.

Ok i got out my plumbing book. Heres my best guess.
1)Depends on the location you hook into on vent stack.
2)The amount of air you are forcing into vent stack, could possibly shipon p-trap. "that are hooked to that vent stack"
3)Your fan would need to go non stop, or you will get sewer gas into room.

"all" your drains hook into a 4" main somewhere on your property..Its all intertwined..i would imagine it will travel everywhere it can

when inspectors test gas lines..they only put five pounds of pressure in the line
