New to the Forum but have slight history with the Plant.

Hey, What's up? I'm thinkin' about getting into the hobbie of growing. I guess I'm just looking for advice.

I'm not looking to setup a big thing. Just one plant, two at tops. I just wondering about the lights I should use. I was thinking, (I know there's my problem, me thinking again.) about buyin' one of those Sun Systems. The 150 watt. Found one on a site for about 80 bucks. I was thinkin' that 150 watts would be alright for one plant. I'd use my closet for the space like every other asshole I know and make a nice little small setup for myself.

I already got the soil mix recipe I wanna use and I think I'll be okay. If I get any problems I could maybe post em here and you guys give me advice?

So what do you think? Pipe dream, or do-able? Leave me some feedback. -Peace.
 
it sounds like you got an ok set up. what kind of light is your 150watt? hps, MH, Flors? what is your soil mix recipe? what are you gonna feed them? what light schedual are you gonna put it on, what strand are you growing? what is the MAX size you want your plant to get so you know how long u should veg for and how big your plants pot should be..hope at least over 2 gallons.even 2 gallons is kinda small.. need alot more input to really tell you if you got a good set up or not!!! people on this site LOVE, and i mean, LOVE, pictures...if you wanna post on this site and want good feed back, post pic's...thats my best advice for you..
 
If you look around the forum a little bit, its definitely doable! Like the mad hatter said there's a lot to it other than lights. I'm a newb but I can tell you first hand that if your building a little box or cab then your biggest battle will most likely be heat, so plan on getting some decent fans/ventilation.

But to answer your question yes 150w of light should be okay for one maybe two plants. I'm running about 160 true watts from cfl's and two short riders from nirvana so anything can be done. Shit if you start off with a 150w hps you will be straight, you could always add some cfl's to the side later in flowering to produce more bud from the sides. More than anything I think you need to look around the forum a little more, look at the stickys in the begining of each forum and you will find out most everything you need to know.

  • 50% Miracle Grow
    • 20 % Bat Guano
    • 10% Organic Sea Food Fertilizer
    • 10% Perlite
    • 0.5% Sand
    • 0.5% Organic mix. Like roots and Bark.
    If you think that you have a better or more simple recipe, please let me know. I was thinking about fox farms but I don't know.

    I have no idea what I'm going to feed them So I do need help in that department. My light schedule is Lights on till 1:00pm and off till 7:00am.
    So it's on 18 hours and off 6.

    That's another thing I'm wondering about. How much is my power bill going to be with this new light??

    I have some five gallon buckets I'm going to use after I transfer the plants when they get to big for the clear party cups.

    And as for the strand I'm growing I just using the cheap method and just getting people I know to save me seeds.

    I'd take pictures but there's not really anything To see right now besides my cleaned out closet with a fan and two buckets in it. Most if not all of my stuff has not been bought yet. I just wanted to check here before I started spending my money.

Sounds pretty good growing is pretty simple. KISS Keep it simple stupid :)

150 Watt in a closet should be alright. Personally don't have experience with 150Watt Hps so not sure if heat will be a problem.

Now when it comes to soil check Subcool's Super Soil. Simply mix it up let it cook for a month and water. All your plant's needs are in the soil. Make sure you read what it says all Questions and Answers will be in thread.
 
You just need to find out your kW/h rate to determine your bill. That 150 will pull about 81kW/h a month, you can use the formula below to figure it up.

150watts * 18hours * 30days / 1000watts = 81 kW/h used monthly

Then multiply that number by your kW/h rate for your total bill estimate.
 
So, to recap I have a 150 Watt Sun System coming in the mail along with a 12QT bag of fox farm's Ocean Forest. I have a 5 Gal bucket with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage and my grow room is my closet.

I was thinking that since I only have 12Qt's I should move down to a three gal bucket. What do you think?

Also, something I haven't mentioned before is that I have this plant outside that's in a pot with Miracle grow potting soil. I haven't touched the thing besides moving it once out of the rain so it wouldn't drown, although I do think it still got way more water than it should have. One of the bottom leaves turned yellow and is pretty gone.

I was wondering that when I get my setup running, should I transplant her to indoors? If so, should I switch from Miracle grow to FFOF? I would like your thoughts on that. Anyways. I gotta go fix breakfast. -Peace, and thanks for the help so far.
