New to the board and have some tough questions

I have slowly been seeing more and more about solo cup full grown plants but can't really find any timeline. Currently I have 2 plants going but total time is going to end up being around 4-5 months, first grow and learned a lot and made lots of mistakes lol

My question is when do most people start flowering, the seed sites base there stats on 8" flowering start which seems crazy low as my one lady is 23" and still in veg lol so either I am wayyyyyy past when i should have started to flower or I am gonna have a huge ass plant :leaf:

Basically I wanna know if you can start flowering instantly or week one or two when they are tiny and grow mini plants extremely quickly:idea:

IS it possible to grow a bud in a month from start to finish? Do people grow a bunch of tiny plants of different strains to have a mix? is this kind of thing even possible?

BTW this place is amazing lol helped me save my plants a few times:weed:

You ain't growing bud in a month.....I've done multiple strain solo cup grows honestly it was a pita having some finish later and having different nutes ect....but go for it.....mine weren't seed though I prefer sexually mature clones but there is a big "12/12 from seed " thread here.

The fastest indicas I've ever seen were 45 days and that time starts at the 12/12 photoperiod not at the time of sow.....I still let those go 60 plus days...........

Do you remember what name for the strain of indica. I have 3 blooms Indica @ 34 days/92 days old that have some hairs that are orange and for a few days now. Was thinking it was an Indica thing.

You can set the photoperiod at 12/12 from seed but that doesn't make them start flowering immediately.
They won't start to flower until they are mature enough to start, regardless of when you switch to 12/12. Generally that will be about 3 weeks from seed. It will help stunt growth some to go 12/12 from seed but not as much as you may think. The most vigorous growth comes during the first couple of weeks after flowering during the stretch period. Being in small cups will stunt the growth as well.
When the plants really get going you will need to water frequently, multiple times a day during some weeks.

Hi Fang...
I don't know what strain twostroke was referring to...but Early California is supposed to finish in 6 weeks. I have the seeds but haven't grown it out to confirm.

so growing 10 mini plants of different strains is not recommended? lol i thought it would be cool but i'm also not into wasting my time so it would have to be worth it.

on average what could you expect out of a solo cup plant yield wise? 10 grams?

When should you flower a plant, mine are around 5 months old and just keep getting bigger and bigger but I have no idea when is the best time to switch it over.

ganjaman,
Actually the only time when it's REALLY a hassle growing different strains is in hydro, then they all share the same nutrients. Like Ebb and Flow. Otherwise...hell, go for it. Might be an inconvenience to tailor feedings and have some finish earlier. Experienced growers do it all the time...but for a new grower it will be trickier.

I am definitely no expert so i'll stick to my 2 plant set up lol but now a couple more questions I have.

if you can flower at anytime, is there an ideal time or is it more or less depending on setup and the space you have. Will they keep growing bigger in veg or eventually they stop. I know you can keep a mother in veg for awhile but does she keep growing and you have to trim her down.

Quite a few things factor into when you may want to flip to flower.
Size for certain. Generally a plant will grow 2x to 3x it's current size the first 2-3 weeks of flowering.
How often you want to harvest plays into it as well.

ganjaman,
Clone Mommas are a special case and you manage them differently. By taking cuttings from them regularly (whether you need them or not) you will keep them shorter and bushier. Also, you don't put a clone Momma in a 5 gallon pot. Root confinement helps to keep them small.

But in veg and with plenty of lights and a big pot...they will keep growing. If you figure in height...that's a good way to determine how long to veg. An indica will double in size during flowering and a sative can triple in size.

So say, you have a hybrid and your room can handle a 4' plant. Veg till you have a plant Oh say 18" and flip to 12/12. Does that help understanding veg? It gets more complicated when you add in training and scrog and such things.

Hey JD how goes it? Early California hmmm, does SOS carry those? I'll keep an eye out for when you run them. Happy Holidays BTW.

I say indica but they're hybrids....green crack aka cush.....and gt dragon...like I said they can be pulled at 45 and be real quality but I let them go longer but dude these are clone only Icant vouch for green crack seeds....Ihope this helps.

thank you.. thank you,,,, extra watering,,,, needed that.. am going full 8 weeks veg (cfl lites,, bummer) b4 flip, 5 gallon buckets.. again i say thank you
