Ok so i am new to soil growing, have been doing hydro for a while, but wanted to try something hopefully less complex. What do you soil growers use for your medium and nutes?

My lights are set up and ready and i just want to try something simple but effective. Any recommendations? Also can anyone recommend pot size for a 3-4 foot plant, i havent selected a strain yet but thats about as tall as i want to go.

:peace:

Pot size 15-20ltr
25% potting compost
25% vermiculite
25% horse manure
25% top soil
cactus food ppk= 20-35-20

never failed for me!!

Thanks for the fast replies guys! from what ive read most people feed about once every three days. is that typical throughout veg and flower?

also i was thinking about germing and starting them for the first few weeks in a hydro system then transplanting to soil. any thoughts on that idea or would it be better to just start in soil

1pt vermiculite, 1pt perlite, 1pt mushroom compost/worm castings, 1pt peat moss. I add 1 tablespoon of garden/dolomite lime per gallon of mix. I use botanicare pro grow/bloom. My plants are very healthy and thriving! I think it would be better to start on soil the less stress the better! My nute are organic and don't burn the plants. I feed with every watering once they are 2-3 weeks old. I water twice a week, waiting 2 full days in between each watering but it depends on your pot size/soil mix. During flowering I water every other day.

I feed lightly every watering, when the pots get light they need water ,it's about 3 days but varies , smaller plants need water less often.I transplant the clones when rooted into pro-mix in 4" pots, use diluted DNF Organic Gro. I clone in peat plugs because I have propagating trays with heaters set up for 1" peat plugs. Works for me. Good luck with your grow.:peace:

P.S. I use No-damp and peroxide as well when rooting.:peace:

start them in soil. start your clones in the hydro.

If i use a number of diff mediums like perlite and vermiculite should i mix them all together and then use or do i layer them in any way? may sound like i stupid question but i truly do next to nothing about soil growing:mrgreen:

should i use pots with a drain in the bottom to keep them from develpoing mold or root rot?

Thanks for all the info so far guys:peace:

Yes you need pots that drain to prevent root rot. I would blend perlite and spagnum to make a growing medium, but it's easier to buy pre-mixed "pro-mix" at the garden center. It is used for top dressing on lawns so is easily found, Good Luck!!:peace::joint::peace:

mix them all together in 1 large batch so when you need to transplant you use the same soil mix. This will lessen transplant shock. I find a large trash bag is easiest to mix everything with little mess. I like to let everything sit after mixing for a week but that's just me it's not necessary. Use pots that drain well! Don't let the pot sit in water.
