Whats up my name is john i live in southern CA and i just started growing a outdoor soil plant from germination to soil. it germinated nice and i Planted it on 7/15/2014. i went to home deopt to buy some soil. i picked vigoro all purpose potting mix is that a good one to use? its coming out good its the 4th day and its about an inch tall. i have tried growing before. a clone and some seedlings but now that i have researched alot i figured i was over watering my other plants. i water them every other day.... about a 1/4 of a water bottle.... when is it good to start giving neutrients to my plant? i was looking at foxfarms TRIO pack it has big bloom, grow bigger, and tiger bloom. since i only have one plant i was planning on getting it from a guy on ebay who sells growing stuff and has diffrent size oz bottles so that way i donthave to buy the full 3 bottles. is this good to start off with? and when can i start doing LST(low stress training). any tips to give? please help have lots of questions

She's a sweety! No need to worry about nutes for a week or 2 at least. Probably even lay off the water a bit. The roots won't try to fill the pot if they have enough moisture available up close. make the plant suffer a bit. don't kill it with kindness ;)

Thanks! I'll do that then aha. Thanks for the fast response

thats soil bro, you hardly need nutrients unless your planning on getting it really big.

find nutrients with low salt content for soil 3-4 weeks down the road...

They are talking about it in a thread here. (edit: they are talking about a different mix, but you get the idea)

Seems like it's on par with Miracle Grow, perhaps under (2.5 stars Home Depot Rating). People in the forum have varying opinions on MG. Their nutrients aren't going to be enough for the whole season, and they aren't based on what your plant will need. I went with some seasons old MG due to lack of money, but started my own (General Organics) nutrients after week 3. MG is an okay medium, but next time I'd spend a little more time on research on this forum and a few more dollars in a garden shop.

I've just transplanted with ProMix BX and it's awesome so far. Nicer content and consistency than MG.

Also, FoxFarms was my first choice for nutes, but I got the GO Box because my garden shop was out of some of the FF.

So is fox farm trio OK to use ?

Those are a great choice. They are best paired with FoxFarms potting mix, but next time you know better for the grow media. Which ever brand of high quality nutrients you decide to use, try to use one brand of products for the whole life cycle of the plant so that you don't run into deficiencies or negative interaction between the ingredients. The ProMix I use contains peat, coco coir and vermiculite or perlite. I wouldn't use that soil mix for any transplants down the road. Get some good stuff. Lots of info on this forum and many knowledgeable growers.

If you do go with FF make sure you buy the big jug of Big Bloom, you will be using much more of that. You might also want to look into the FF solubles for flowering. A couple other nutes you might be interested in are DynaGro and Maxsea, I've heard very good things about both of these used on outdoor grows and there're cheap and very easy to use. GL

Coco coir is a soilless medium.
Used similar to hydroponics in drain to waste feeding schedule just like a soil grow except coco coir has no nutrients and is beneficial to roots with potassium available in it. Also it is very airy which will increase drainage and oxygen to the roots which is great making it hard to overwater and making it easy to maintain healthy plants.

I used fox farm my first grow, it does the job just like any other nutrients.

But if you do use fox farm make sure to pick up fox farm sledge hammer. It is a formula designed to break down the sodium deposits left behind by the foxfarm trio + fox farm solubles and additives. Used every week end...

Also pick up some cal mag to go with the fox farm trio... Otherwise you'll need it later.

Honestly you could go without that bloom crap from them it hardly does anything, it's very low on nutrients and organic... Your better off buying a bag of bat guano for mixing with tiger bloom

So next transplant add a different soil instead of the one I'm using?

I don't think I would use the soil you have for anything except experiments that needs close monitoring.
Says it feeds up to 6months I doubt it but that means it is gonna be hot and it has time release concentrate chemicals added.

Now with soil you can mess up easier IMO. Overwatering can cause nutrient burn with hot shit like that. I would give the soil to my parents if I didn't have other plants to use it on.

I rec coco coir because I'm letting you know there is a good medium that is easy to use and it's hydro.
If you go organic even better, synthetic will probably get you a 50% yield increase and doing it in hydro will make it grow a lot faster up to 100% faster then soil.
