new guy on the forum, need some advice

Hey, I love this site. I have spent lots of time reading here in between

anyways I am startin to grow. In a heated garage. We are building a box out of plywood to house the plants and wrapping it in tinfoil. I am 17 and have been smoken for 5 years but never grew so I am very ignorent. I don't have lots of cash for grow lights but what about a 4' fluorescent fixture with 2 bulbs? what heat should room temp be? 3 inchs from the top of the plants right? 18 hrs a day? food and water how much?


I will read more on this site. If anyone has the patience to give me some tips to get me going in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

grow box temps should be like 72-76 degreese. its even ok into the low 80s like 82-83 max. ure gonna use t12 shop lights huh? get a couple of them and since they run cool they can even touch the plants leaves w/o burning. try to keep them real close like a inch from tops. 18/6 is fine for veg. and only feed them when they need it, unless your growing hydro.

Welcome. and most people are going to say get rida your age. if your not over 18 then you shouldnt be here. with that said

Tin foil will not make your grow room warmer all around. what it will do is give u hot spots and burn your leaves. (Paint in inside all white.)
My temps are high. but i read that you want to be right around 75-low 80's for temp and a humidity of around 50-60%

You will also want to keep a fan going. 1 to help maintain humidity levels and heat. 2 to help strengthen your plants stems.

You will also want some kinda Ventilation to get that stale hot air out. and some kinda induction to get fresh cooler air in.

You will want to keep your lights as close as possible to prevent stretching but not to close to where u are burning them. im not to sure what kinda lights u are usen. is this a fish tank hood? for the first cupple weeks 24 hours of light isnt terrible at all. after 2-3 weeks i would drop down to 20/4 or 18/6.

As for feed... What kinda soil are you usen? does the package say will feed up to say 3 months? if you have soil that has nutrients alrdy in it then u dont need to worry about feed for awhile anyways. just make sure you do not over water. the nutrients release everytime you water. to much nutrients and u will get Nut burn. some ppl call it MG burn (mirical grow)

Get your self a cheepo Moisture meter from walmart or anywhere really. that will help u alot in watern. its hard to not over water. for me anyways... i do more dmg to my plants then they do to them selfs from over watern with MG soil.

thanks for the advice. I am 18 in 2 weeks how much water? I will look into a moisture meter.
