New grower needs help.....Please

Hi,

I'm currently on my second grow and have been infested by nats loads of them, I know there's gnat off
but wanted to know if anyone had any other ways of dealing with them.
Also if I covered the soil with sand would that do anything ?

No not really they mainly come out of the bottom of the pot, yellow strips ,pieces cut off and placed onto medium or put the pot in a nylon stocking tied back together around the stem to starve and contain them.
