Ok so i scrapped my pc growbox, i scrapped my cartboard growbox and made a wooden one( with a cartboard back so i can drill holes easily ) with a dark plastic ( garbage bags are opaque ) cover. It vents well all my lights and doesnt let too much light escape ( except at my intake and outake, but it's in a dark place so it doesnt get light inside it ( for the dark part of growing )
> so i have 2x20w white cfl's
> 2x25w yellow cfl's
> and a 10w yellow cfl
the box has a 1x1 ft footprint and is about 2( actually less than 2 feet ) height.
Will this be enough for all stages ? or atleast vegetative. Or am i wasting my time ?IMG_19800205_182849.jpgIMG_19800205_182754.jpgIMG_19800205_182747.jpgIMG_19800205_182137.jpgIMG_19800205_182159.jpgIMG_19800205_182148.jpg

i admire your ingenuity but unkess you are sticking with one plant i think you are wasting your time. that looks fine for one plant
that takes a stone off my chest. i REALLY didnt want to spend another day thinking and building a new box.
i'm not going to be growing industrial sized plants, just for fun and personal use :D, so this should be adequate for my first time.

i have been growing for "3" years and have gone thru every design for grow boxes and now i just have my lights hanging from the ceiling and exhaust outside thru the window. Simple and cheap :-)

How do you exhaust through your window?? I was trying to think of a way to do this - but one of my helpers said it would be pretty costly to do....

get one of those aluminium pipe/make a pipe out of cartboard and ducttape, get 2 120mm PC fans. align them in series over the hole where you are going to vent . Being in series they will have more static pressure, but the same CFM, i have 2 paralel 80mm pc fans and they do their job quite well.
just my 2 cents

Only thing I can say is get rid of the aluminum foil. Very uneven reflection and may cause burning of leaves. jmo. Looks like an interesting setup, look forward to updates on growth! :)

I was trying to light my :joint: when I read this... I got to the part about you building another box and had a mental image.. I couldn't help but chuckle and comment..

this setup looks very improvised, almost aggro, but I'm sure you'll be able to take one plant to harvest so long as your plant gets water, food, and air.

grrrr :finger: . j/k . yeah, that would be funny, to build a 4th box XD for just one plant. This one is adequate: 1x1x2 with about 100w of CFL's and 4500 lumens, my plant seems to be an indica so it will not be stretchy and it'll fit just fine. Gonna veg it 1-2 more weeks ( till it gets 1/3 the height it has space to grow in )

I'm going full organic, not gonna add anymore fertilizers cause i gave it a minor case of nute burn( hope i flushed enough ) ...
>added 6 earthworms and some dead( decaying ?!?? ) leaves from my garden to the pot, i'll feed them leaves and cornmeal every week and my plant should be fine.

Even if i get a lesser yield it's better than me killing it with some weird nutes my mom uses for her flowers. :weed:

A word of caution: Watch how much you add to the surface of your soil. While all too often overlooked, getting air to the roots is a very important issue, and suffocating them can result in malnutrition, even death. What you may consider in your situation is buying earthworm castings and making a sort of tea with them, then feeding your plant with it in that fashion.

I've only added dead leaves to half the top part of the pot so i don't think it will suffocate, also between the soil and pot there is like 1 mm space( doesn't seem to stick, lol )

I wonder if using earthworms can i substitute nutes ( atleast in part if not totally )

Similar size and setup to what I have going on. How old is your plant?
my plant is about 3 weeks old, i got it from a guy who didnt water/give it light for 4 days after germinating .....

for my second ( first grow failed ) grow i consider this my best setup. Also it's fully DIY and i had to hide when i built it so my family doesnt ask questions, which meant i had to do it fast ...

gonna post tomorow some pictures. so you can see the growth ( indeed i'm in love with her- if it's a he, i'll change sexual orientation )

Pictures as i promised, sorry for being late i had an exam today and i had to study ... ended up going to exam and being told that i have to programme myself for an examination ... FFS STUPID COUNTRY WITH STUPID RULES .
I took the advice of a gentleman from this forum and replanted my baby. I was root bound like hell ( no space whatsoever ) now i doubled it's growth space and i hope it will suffice till harvest .
It was starting to get yellow in the lower-leaf range so i decided i must change it's soil ( i might have accidently poisoned it with too much nutes - don't really know )

Anyhow, here she is. Any feedback would be apreciated, thanks !

This is before transplant, the pot is half the size of the new one. Those are some diying leaves i took from my garden to feed the earthworms is have with the plant . Notice the yellowing .

If it doesnt get shoked from the transplant ( i actually did rip any of the roots, that's a feat i never acomplished till now ), should i expect a grow boom - with all the new space, nutrients/what not .

Also the earthworms. They provide earthworm castings for the plant and when they die they fertilise the soil, amirite ? Do you guys use earthworms ?

BUMP FOR GREAT JUSTICE

EDIT: those "air purifier CFL's", one of whice came broke ffs, really worm, my plant has somewhat of a smell when outside the growbox but when inside you can't smell anything. They might be a good solution for small rooms. They provide light and get rid of the pesky marijuana revealing smell.
