bongsmiliehey guys. i managed to get my self a very large and old server case which i will be growing in.
i got the cfls (3x23w warm whites & 2x23w cool whites) but then found out that the long cool whites dont fit in the case lengthways.
Today a buddy gave me 2x70watt MH bulbs and a ballast and was wondering if i could throw those in?
obviusoly heat will be a problem and will have to put another 2 fans with the 3 fans already in the case...
the case is real tall! and never grown with HID lights before so never had to worry about heat?
the MH bulbs also get real hot after warming up for a minute...is that normal?
and will the MH help at all with flowering or will i need to remove them and flower with cfls?
throw advice at me guys please...:bigjoint:bongsmilie

People grow all the way through with MH...its not the best option, but it is a HID, though low wattage HID its still a HID and will provide much better penetration than just the CFL's, but you are in a very inclosed space...the only way you are going to see if you are going to have heat issues is to put the bulbs in the case and the fans and let it run for an hour with a thermometer in there at about 4-5" below the MH bulbs...if its anywhere below 82-85F you should be fine, if you find it hard to keep it below 85F decrease the ambient temperature in the room itself...so if its currently at 72F drop it to 65F, or just get a larger box to grow in ;)

You have the lights, so make use of them...don't limit yourself to that small case unless you have to ;)

MH gets a little hotter than HPS...its a HID...it gets hot ;)

IMO: I would just go with some cfls, considering it is SUCH a small space. That way it will be easy to regulate the temp, (with say, 2-3) fans. Good luck on this grow man! I will be following!
