Need Info: Ballast from Scratch

Just a quick question for everyone or anyone willing to help. I would like to know if there are any items you can scrounge up with components capable of building your own ballast from scratch?
I am fine electronically, and capable of doing it safely with right equiptment. Just need help with finding the parts due to money shortege, as well as a wiring diagram.

Used microwave ovens have a transformer and capacitor capable of making a ballast, but you'll have to research the proper wattage bulb for whatever combination you find.

Good to know and oddly enough i have one of those lol. So that would just leave the ignitor unit for the hps. thnx for the help + rep
