Need help with lighting

okay so I finally decided to upgrade my lighting from a 45 watt cfl bulb to a 400 watt HPS bulb, the only problem was I got the bulb and it needs a mogul socket. Does anyone know if I can get a medium to mogul socket converter? or a really cheap mogul socket to plug this light into? Also does anyone know how hot this bulb gets to I don't burn my house down? I've been asking every where and no one seems to know.

Pic of bulb included :wall:

You will need a Ballast to fire that bulb...
DON'T wire it straight to AC wall plug juice.
Bad JuJu will happen.:fire:
research required.:peace:

you dont just screw that bulb into a socket. you need ballast or youre gona burn your house down.

You can get a complete setup rather cheap on ebay, Ballast and all. I suggest a digital one personally. But as others have stated, don't wire that directly, you will regret it. Be safe!

You might have another problem too. You touched the bulb with your hands. This causes problems with a lot of bulbs. The oils left from your hands form a chemical reaction on the glass when it's heated up and burn out the bulb. Wipe the bulb down with a clean paper towel before using it. And make sure you get a ballast. Concerns over heat and ballasts etc is what made me switch to LED.

Without hijacking this thread too much, I'm new here. How do I post a question of my own? I can't seem to figure that part out.
