Need help with grow room setup and other ?s

I am a complete noob when it comes to growing, I barely decided to go with growing yesterday when I had nothing else to do with the amazon gift cards I got as a gift. So FAR I have purchased a grow tent, and a light system. I don't know what else I will need besides the obvious air flow, nutrients, water, etc. Maybe if someone could suggest other things I NEED to grow that would be efficient with my current items I purchased?

My reasons for purchasing the two. I bought the 4 x 2 x 6 tent as I thought it would be a decent size to start in as well as expand once I get experience. I don't want to have to buy things and upgrade all the time and have junk laying around that I don't use. I bought the light system as I read a couple good reviews on other forums (not amazon reviews), and I just wanted something simple, cheap, and had everything I would need so I don't have to buy everything separate.

Budget: $1000 (give or take)

My questions
1. What else do I NEED so I can start to grow? (not obvious things I can get from a home depot like pots and soil, etc)

2. Is 400w enough for the tent I bought?

3. What are the chances of a FIRE? (lol, I will start in my empty basement, but will move this tent to my room once I feel it is safe enough)

4. Do I need a water system? Or would watering the plants myself work?

5. What are some suggested items a starter should have?



* I know alot of people are going to say I shouldn't have jumped right into buying a tent and light system but have done some research so I make the best choices. My response is that I 100% agree with you. I am a bit stubborn when it comes to asking for help as I don't want to post a thread that gets 0 replies.

EDIT: Please provide links or a detailed description of what I should look for. Example: Instead of a fan, what size? How many?

1) a good heavy duty timer....lots of fans...maybe a carbon filtre, temp/hygrometer, pH test drops or kit, nutes, the list goes on and on

2) yes...400 watt HPS is great

3) as long as your electrical is safe and your setup is secure...chances are very low

4) water system is not required for something as small as you are doing.

5) some seeds would be great start...maybe rock-wool, then maybe a couple of CFL (6500k) for starting the babies....some soil, unless you want to go hempy

Hi I am looking for some help about optimal growing. I have a grow tent inside my sleepout the sleep out has been sealed from the inside and have boarded up the window. I have squeezed a large air tube up the bottom of the window between the window and board. The window has vents so I can access outside air, the tube runs to a powered fan then more tube from the fan runs into the bottom port hole of my tent so there's outside air being sucked and blown into my tent so that's fresh intake right, so then on the other side of the tent at the top I have a outake/exhaust fan sucking and blowing the fresh air back out the tent and that just gets dispersed into my sleepout to the outer room which is sealed unless I open the door to get in and out of room. I have no carbon filter/air conditioning/or CO2 producer or anything like that and as far as I'm concerned if I am able to get fresh outside air in I'm fine, so I think my setup is perfect right so my question is..... am I doing anything wrong because I've been growing for while now and they always vege healthy with nice shiny dark green leaves but once they go into flower the start budding they do fine for a wee bit but then always take a turn for the worst and start getting sick like a stunned growth or something the buds don't yield as much as they should they literally start dying I can't stand it its so disappointing when they look so good during vege. I put it down to a weak strain but I can't help think it might be my grow tent room setup what am I doing wrong guys please help? thanks

We old folk honestly can't read through it. My head starts spinning. After two "sentences" I lost my ability to follow the chain of thought.

Ventilation - fan for exhaust, just passive intake. The exhaust will suck air in.

If buds are not dense, you likely need more light.

Some people love MG, i wouldn't use it. I like soil mix with minimal nutes so I can control it. Dig through my journal to see what I do if you like.
