Hey. I'm growing in my basement closet's storage room. It has around 3 ft. from the cement ground to the wooden ceiling. In the center of the room there is one regular soft white bulb. There is one fixture, that I can see the wire hanging from and being wired to the wall and over to the electrical box. Is there any way that I can take the wire that its running to and change it to a few CFL's. Or any way to make that room applicable for at least 2 Lights, so I can use Y splitters and put in 4 bulbs? It's for one plant, and please dont criticize at all for anything, or try to correct. I just want to experiment. So, if you know anything at all, please post. Thanks!

Locations of where to get the items needed would be great to. I have a Home Depot close by, and im on a VERY low budget. Thanks!!

Not sure but you answered you own questions just add Y adapters and you can run 4 bulbs from the socket are you wanting to lower it? In that case use an extension cord with a standard light socket on it.You just screw into the original socket a socket to outlet adapter and then plug the cord in that goes to the extension with light socket toss your y spliters in and go_Or you can just harwire to the wire and lower the actual light socket to where you want it to,

Hey. Thanks for the help. I totally forgot about using 3 Y splitters. I just realized that, so I could screw one into the main fixture, then off each end of that I can put another, so I'll have 2? If I do that, what wattage light should I use? I cant have a risk of anything exploding or bursting... My friend had a CFL that was like 16w = 60w , which I told him was way too small. But if I went to Home Depot, would I be able to find the splitters and some larger CFL's, maybe 23w for around 20$ or less? Thanks guys! Great Help so far!

Thanks kagenical. Alright, so sometime when I'm free, I could run to home depot, buy 3 splitters for around 10$, and 4 CFL's for around 25-30$ all at home depot? Well I haven't said this in a while but.... Thats Great! haha. Ok... So your 100% positive that if I take out the lightbulb thats in the fixture right now, I can put a Y splitter in its place? And from there put 2 more splitters on each end of that? Also... Will the CFL's be getting enough power to stay generating for about 2 months non-stop? Thanks!

you might want to wire in another light socket for the two splitters because the cfl's get hot and the way your wanting to set it up with 3 y splitters on one light socket the lights would be too close and might melt the splitter and might cause a fire and anyways having the 3 Y splitters on the one socket might be pulling to many ampers thru the wire and would be a potential fire hazard.

be carefull man. you dont want to try and pull more power from a socket/wire than was originally intended. you could burn up that insulation and start a fire. it could short out even. ask a professionals help if you dont know what your doin. you could just do nothin but throw breakers and blow fuses all year long.

As long as your house is 20 years or newer your fine as the light socket is pulled with the same guage wire as an outlet which can handle 1000 watt lights withour issue. You can get actual 65 watt cfls at most hardware stores for about $18-20 each they are equivalent to 300 watts regular incadescent

Hey guys. Ok, we'll honestly I'm thinking that for Germ. and Veg. just one Y splitter and 2 CFL's would be ok. Its an enclosed room with good humidity, temp, and everything else. I am going to hang some white sheets maybe about 3x3 or maybe 4x4... to keep as much light in 1 area, then hang reflectors. I cant wire any new sockets or anything. I could gut the wire Im using and do something with that, but thats about it. No new wiring... I live with my parents and this is a storage room they go in maybe every year or so.... but, thanks. any suggestions or answers about 2 strong cfls?

And the wire connecting to the light is quite large. It is pretty thick, and it looks like most electrical wiring. If I unscrew an outlet cover from the wall, and check out the wires behind it to see if there the same, would I be ok?

Alright. Thanks, I think I'm pretty much set. I started germing 2 bag seeds this morning from some bangin shit I had over the weekend. I would have bought online but its just experimental, plus I'm short on money :p .... Now I just need a ride to home depot to purchase my lighting supplies. Thanks for all the help!
