Need Help Identifying If This Could Be Useful

Hey I was just going through some things and found this filter and wanted to know if anyone could tell me what it could have originally been used for and if I could possibly fill it with carbon and use it as a scrubber for my grow room. If so what do you think the best way to go on this would be?

Thanks

i would say it is a hepa filter used in some vacuum cleaners,
a hepa filter is used to remove pollen and dust and a carbon filter is used to remove smoke and odours,
allthow some devices use both hepa and carbon filters so yea i would say yea fill it with carbon and off ya go,

Alright cool man thanks for the reply. Tell me if What I want to do would work well. I want to maybe put a dryer sheet at the bottom cause there is a very small hole then I want to just pour the carbon right in there then put a small pc fan on top now I dont know if I hould have the fan blow air into the carbon or maybe point the fan in the opposite direction to try to get some suction through the actual filter. Let me know which way I should point the fan and any other pointers if you can.

Thanks

iam still new to growing myself so dont take my advice as 100% correct.
but if it was me i would block 1 hole off using what ever you have to hand, connect a fan and suck the life outa that home made filter. blowing the air outa your grow room, then make sure you got a intake fan to suck new air back in!
maybe something bigger then a pc fan thow? but then again if it a good fan with good suck, go 4 it what u got to lose.

Thanks man but I dont think Im gonna be able to get an exhaust to outside or anything . Does anyone know if I get a small pc fan blowing into the carbon or trying to creating some suction with the filter (which way would be effective btw?) if I could get some odor control? I only have 2 plants that are relatively small and dont stink a whole lot but its a little noticeable.
thanks

Where did you dig that up at,i know exactly what it is,its an air filter used in deisel engines in semi trucks & heavy equipment such as backhoes & skytraks.

Found it in my garage behind a pile of stuff the top of it just caught my eye while looking for a saw to cut a cardboard tube for a diy carbon filter. I guess Its gotta be from an old car my family must have had or something. So do you think itll do the job as an air filter and do you have any suggestion on how I should setup the fan?

I will second that as being an air filter, I also think you just described to us a good way to turn that thing into a little carbon filter. I def. dont c y that wouldnt work.

I'm pretty sure that everyone here might be wrong...

That looks exactly like a pool filter we used to have at my old house... I'd almost bet my grow on it being that type of filter...

Searched "Pool Filters" in google :

Hell yeah thats the exact same filter as them the remnants of a strap that goes across the the mid section of the filter is a dead give away for me thanks a lot man! It makes sense because I used to have a pool that collapsed. Im gonna fill it with carbon and everything tomorrow so Ill let you know how it works out. Does anyone know the answer to the question about the fan blowing into the carbon or blowing the carbon out?

So far as the carbon is concerned, it doesn't care. I'm not sure if the filter material on the pool filter is directional. Also, depending upon the the material and the pore size of the filter, it may hinder airflow too much. It's designed to filter water, after all.
