Need Help! Day 48 Flowering, Yellow Top Leaves and Turning Light Green

Anyone have any idea what's going on with this? 1 other plant appears to have the same problem but all others are fine.

I have been reading the forum and came to the conclusion it was Calcium and Magnesium deficiency and added 12ml CalMag in 3 gallons of water last night and now it seems to be getting worse.

Any suggestions any of you have would really be appreciated.

This plant is Nirvana BlackJack

This is my first grow and its almost complete.

you do know the fan leaves are stored energy that get used during flowering and as it starts to finish leaves start to die off?

It's normal for "some" yellowing at this stage of flower depending on the strain...that however, looks like nute deficiency or burn. What are you using on it? just based on pictures, I'd say nute burn. Back off all nutes and only feed water for a bit. Watering takes a long time to affect leaves on the top. You can apply a mild solution and spray on the UNDERSIDES of the leaves affected and the surrounding, making sure not to get your flowers wet, you don't want mold to grow on them. If you continue to have probs with it, hit me up on PM anytime or leave a visitor message if you can't. My thread is at

Take care!

What is the temp? how close is the light? looks like my plants that have sun burn.(MH too close for comfort)

but other things could be the issue... here's one and a site to help you figure it out. good site to keep in your favorites.

what a phosphorus deficiency looks like in flowering.

from above website:

Solution to fixing a Phosphorus deficiency
Some deficiency during flowering is normal, but too much shouldn't be tolerated. Any chemical or organic fertilizers that have Phosphorus in them will fix a Phosphorus deficiency. If you have a phosphorus deficiency you should use any N-P-K ratio that is over 5.Again Peters all purpose 20-20-20 is a good mix. Miracle grow Tomato plant food, Miracle grow All purpose plant food (Only mixing at ½ strength when using chemical nutrients, or it will cause nutrient burn!) Other forms of phosphorus supplements are: Bone meal, which is gradual absorption, I suggest making it into a tea for faster use, where bone/blood meal is slow acting, but when made into a tea it works quicker! Fruit eating bat guano, which is fast absorption, Worm castings, which is gradual absorption, Fish meal, which is medium absorption, Soft Rock Phosphate, which is medium absorption, Jamaican or Indonesian Guano, which is fast absorption. Crabshell, which is slow absorption. Tiger Bloom , which is fast absorption.

Here is a list of things to help fix a Phosphorus Deficiency.

Chemical

Advanced nutrients Bloom (0-5-4)
Vita Bloom (0-7-5)
BC Bloom (1.1-4.4-7)
GH Flora Bloom (0-5-4)
GH Maxi Bloom (5-15-14)
GH Floranova Bloom (4-8-7)
Dyna-Gro Bloom (3-12-6)
Fox Farm Tiger Bloom (2-8-4)
Awsome Blossums

Organic

Dr. Hornby's Iguana Juice Bloom (4-3-6)
Advanced Nutrients Mother Earth Bloom (.5-1.5-2)
Fox Farm Big Bloom (.01-.3-.7)
Earth Juice Bloom (0-3-1)
Pure Blend Bloom (2.5-2-5)
Pure Blend Pro Bloom (2.5-2-5)
Buddswell (0-7-0)
Sea Island Jamaican Bat Guano (1-10-0)
Indonesian Bat Guano (0-13-0)
Rainbow Mix Bloom (1-9-2)
Earth Juice Bloom (0-3-1)
BIO BLOOM (2-6-3.5)
AGE OLD BLOOM (5-10-5)
ALASKA MORBLOOM (0-10-10)
METANATURALS ORGANIC BLOOM (1-5-5)

Any of these will cure your phosphorus deficiency. Affected leaves will not show recovery but new growth will appear normal.

Now if you added to much chemical ferts and or organics, (which is hard to burn your plants when using organics) You need to Flush the soil with plain water. You need to use 2 times as much water as the size of the pot, for example: If you have a 5 gallon pot and need to flush it, you need to use 10 gallons of water to rinse out the soil good enough to get rid of excessive nutrients.

Note: Blood Meal, Dried Blood, Guanos, Kelp Meal, Cotton Seed Meal, Peat Moss,
Sulfur and fish meal are all acidic and can bring your pH down, so if you add these please monitor your pH when using those.

Note: Bone Meal, Rock Phosphate, Wood Ashes pretty much all ashes, Shellfish Compost and Crab Meal are all alkaline and can make your pH go up, so if you add any of these please monitor your pH.

Sorry. it could also be a K def...... Look at the site.... it'll really help since you have the plants and I have some pics to look at... :) good luck

Yeah, I read the fan leaves yellow and die off during the later stages; I was under the impression that worked from the bottom up and this is only occurring on the top leaves and some of the smaller leaves coming out of the flower.

I was thinking that was the case at first but now there are yellow spots on some of the fan leaves and sun leaves all over.

I am growing in FFOF and using the FFBB and FFTB in distilled water. I have been only giving it quarter strength then up it to half about 4 weeks in and last week i gave half dose during each water. They didn't show any signs of burn days after watering. Suddenly this starts showing up about 3 days ago.

I will definitely back off the nutrients and give only water for a while. Does nute burn cause yellow spotting?

This strains flowering time is 9-11 weeks. I should start flushing now any way.

yes, that and rusty looking spots, depending on what nute is to blame, in my experience. You got the right stuff there kiddo--FF! just spray a milld cal mag solution on the undersides of the leaves, being very careful to not wet the flowers. You do seem to have a Cal Mag thing going there. Do that for a couple of days and see how she does. My guess is she'll be fine. I will be going out of town for a week on Friday, but I will check back in with you before I leave. Have to get to bed now. I'm subbed to the thread, so it will remind me;) oh..and after three days, you can start those nutes back, just 1/4 down instead of half strength. take care sweetie!

EDIT: dang Stew, I didn't even see ya there!;) P.S. I was going to ask about the heat issue myself, but it seems nice and green everywhere else. Stew's given you great advice too! I always try to go with the simplest equation myself, I still consider myself a noob, especially amongst smart guy's like him. Peace:peace:

In regards to sun burn I was wondering that too. The room has been a steady 70-78F. I put a digital thermostat on a string and hung it directly below the light where the plants are about 18".

Distilled water? remove that from your usage list..... go with Reverse Osmisis(Drinking water at walmart) water or just use your tap...
I use straight from the tap. all the time. no side effects

sun burn can be caused by HOT SPOTS. not necessarily just from the lights being too close.
When the heat produced by the light is not exhausted properly, or a fan isn't ALWAYS blowing on the top of the canopy, moving that hot air around, you can get burned leaves here and there. I have a Blue Thai with sun burn.

BlueThai slight-heat-stress.jpg bottom right hand side. leaves are burnt. but not from nutes.

Thank you for all of the info. I really do appreciate your attentiveness and help RoseyPeach. I will only be using water for the next few days. When I get a chance this evening I will upload some new pictures of the plants. I don't think too much has changed so far from last evening but will check again in a couple hours to make sure.

I can't tell you how great it is to be able to get help from knowledgable people like yourselves.

When I started I was thinking this would be easy. I'm thinking I was wrong lol

Btw, I did move the plant to the side of the light instead of directly under it to be safe Stew, I think that could be part of the problem too. My leaves are sideways and "crinkly". Like a crumpled up candy bar wrapper.

Here are a few more pictures I took this evening. She looks really healthy overall; my favorite of them.

The pictures of the leaves are from a few different plants. They all have the tan leaf thing from the 3rd picture.

Potassium deficiency for sure. it's ok you're so far in at this point theres nothing you can do.. They look great btw... Good luck

Excellent post!! Most likely a K deficiency in my opinion although as stated in an earlier post the fan leaves do start to die back when flowering is coming to a conclusion. Having said that though it looks as though you've still got a fair way to go until the plant is ready for harvest.
