Ok, I'm not a hydro guy so I need some help with this really basic question.
I need to build a temporary water reservoir out of a 40 gallon plastic BRUTE garbage bin.
What I'm doing here is just using this garbage bin/res as a mixing contaner for my nutes. I would fill it with the exact volume of nutrient solution I need, connect a garden hose to a tap that I install somewhere on the bin, and then water my plants by hose, directly from the bin.
At first, I just drilled a hole, and popped a tap into the bottom of the bin, connected my hose to that, and started watering from the bin, and it did okay for the first few minutes. Problem is, as soon as the water level starts dropping a bit, flow at the end of the hose becomes a trickle at best.
Anyway, I don't know anything about pumps really, especially the type I need for this application. Obviously, I guess I need something that kicks on when pull the trigger on my hose, and shuts off, when I let go, but what kind of pump that would be, I have no idea. All I can seen to find in home depot et al. is always-on type sump pumps that you plug in, they turn off, but they stay on until you unplug it again. This won't work for me because as soon as I let go of the trigger on my watering nozzle, the pump will continue to pump and either burn out the pump, or burst the hose.
Can someone tell me what kind of pump I need, or where I can find a good DIY for building a proper reservoir with a pump?
Thanks in advance.
