Need 411

Been chief'n for 17 years, and am tired of spending $. I just joined this site and am gonna be getting a AeroGarden in the next few months. In the meantime, I am going to be doing my own research and am gonna need a lot of help on how to get going. Any information will be helpful. Looking forward to having some great trees.

Welcome. For an AG grow, you're gonna need an airstone (Walmart-$10), air bubbler (walmart $14 in fish section), tubing to connect the previous 2 (Walmart $2 in fish section). Adding CFL light bulbs is a good idea to enhance growth but you have to get the correct types of light bulbs for the correct stage of growth. When pickin out cfl bulbs (try Home depot or lowes) you have to pay attention to the light spectrum of the bulb (Kelvin or #K). Full spectrum cfl bulbs are needed for the veg state (5000K) and soft white bulbs for the flowering stage (2700K). Lights should be on 24/7 during veg. Then switched to 12/12 (12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark) for flowering. You'll need a special cord to do this with the AG light itself. You can get it at radioshack. I forget the name of it but it's somewhere on these forums (or you can use one from the playstation 2). It's a figure 8 cord of some type. For nutrients, you can use the ones that come with the AG or get the Flora Nova series or the Fox Farm nutes (both online or at local hydro stores). That's all i can think of for now. gl

Thanks, I have read a few of your help posts. Im prolly gonna have roomies, hopefully, 420 friendly. How can I take care of the smell? Would it be ok to put the set up in a closet? I am not knowledgeable on the abbreviations for the different light types. I thought the auto-flowering strains are not dependent on light schedules. Can you recommend a safe site for autoflowering female seed sites. What is the net growth production from an AG. I hope this wont be too terribly difficult.

There are a handful of DIY carbon filters out there that you can make for like $5.

If you put it in a closet you're going to need some kind of air circulation because its going to get hot in there.

Correct, you can put an autoflowering strain on 24/0, 12/12, 18/6 all the way through the grow. Most seed bank descriptions say 20/4 is the best cycle to run though.

AG yields vary depending on setup, so, its hard to say.

If you want dense nugs, not wispy stuff, you're going to need additional lighting.

check out the link in my signature.. its my grow i just started. same boat ur in.. i got the deluxe and a 150w hps with general hydroponics big bloom nute and GH Ph up and Ph down chem.. my whole setup costed me about 210. i plan on upgrading to a hand built setup once i gain some knowledge from my first few grows.

oh and yes with auto flowering strains (which i am currently growing ((by the way go to dope-seeds.com)) you should have the lights on 24/7 for like the first 2/3 weeks for rapid veg growth.. then once it begins to autoflower or show sex, put it on some kind of consistant schedual because it is still a plant and it is ideal for it to have dark time.
