Are they about an 1/8 of an inch long black and in there later stages fly? If so they are thrips and suck the juices from the plants. There bad, either get lady bugs or spray a pyrethrum based insecticde on them. May need continuous use depending on egg count.

Well, are they anywhere else in the house? or just near the plants? if they're just near the plants they're probably paracitic and will eat your babies.

If they are fungus gnats you can control the little fukers with sticky fly paper that you hang from the ceiling, just rub a slice of orange on the paper in a few spots to lure em in:mrgreen:,it wont take long with 5 or 6 fly papers hanging & you'll have killed them all.

If you have crawling insects then lady bugs are the ultimate weapon, just buy a thousand of them lil suckers & poof !!,just make sure to have fans on all the lights so your lady bug friends wont want to go up that high & get fried in the lights.
