My way to deal with Mites and soil pests

Now, this doesn't work if you have a leaf eating pest, but I recently had a problem with tiny mites in my soil. Not sure if they are Spider Mites or Baby gnats, but whatever they were, they are dead now.
What I did was I got a piece of cardboard to protect the leaves of my plants. Then, I took a magnifying glass and angled it to the sun, so that I had a pinpoint of heat running back and forth across my soil. I kept a spray bottle close as to not overheat the soil, but all it takes is one second under that beam of magnified sunlight, and poof! those fuckers turned into a cloud of smoke.

I know it's impossible to get them all, so I also put some organic pesticide along with it, but as of now, those little buggers aren't jumping around anymore. Like I said, I needed to protect the plant with a big piece of cardboard so I didn't burn the plant, but man, soil pests don't stand a chance against that magnifying glass. I'll keep you all posted on the infestation and if my purge by fire worked.
Peace and happy growing!
