My plants dying!!! please help! leaf discoloration and major curling!

can anyone tell me whats up? i have some pics.
first off. this is the deal.

2 plants, bagseed
two 23w cfls 5200 k
organic miracle grow gardening soil
there has been no fan or air movement in closet till today
no extra nutes
watering with spring water from jug

it seems the leaves are curling up and over themselves. i guess that would be withering.
it seems the plants are withering and dying.
one of them(the first detail pic) is seriously discolored and seriously withered and has done no growing for a little over a day.
the other one( the last pic) is on its way to withering and dying. whats going on?

i feel maybe the pots are too small now. i figured when the roots started popping out that i would transplant.
the roots are getting close to popping out, so in the next few days im gonna transplant.

the closet is pretty regularly 80 degrees, maybe 78 sometimes. i cant do much about that. but i dont think that is the problem.

i feed them with spring water because i have no ph tester. i dont think this is the problem either.

i have used no nutes, but i am using organic gardening soil by miracle grow, which is supposed to already have nutes in it and keep plants well growing well for up to 3 months.

has the problem been because there has been no fan or moving air?

i put the plants in 2.3 gallon buckets just now. still need more light. got organic plant food too. still afraid to use it. dont want to burn em.

overwater/heat would be my guess on the leaf curling. The discoloration looks like too much nute...
You can use miracle grow but it's usually a good idea to flush it with water a few times before actually putting the plant in it.

I went the miracle grow route on my bag seed grow (I am a first timer). One of my plants looks the same (with some curl-age as well...I was hoping an old timer will post to my thread...Cross posting here as I would love to figure out what I am doing wrong (besides being a first timer :-?

Attached some pics to your thread of my little darlings...They are in 5gallon buckets with MG and soil mixed (fucked up and did liquid fert too, ouch!!), 600watt HPS with a stand off of 14 inches and a 16 inch fan to circulate air. The fan is not ALWAYS running whereas the room they are in is semi-cool still...

Mind if I cross post my "journal" with this thread??

I think that is my issue..I over watered with my plants in MG and I released too much of the MG nutes??

yeah its cool if you cross this shit with your journal. we are all just searching for knowledge, right?

at any rate, maybe it is the miracle grow. I wouldn't be surprised, shit is so cheap as it is. but, i'm just gonna stick it out. i think they will survive. i was just a little scared earlier.

i would be careful with the kind of soil you can buy at Walmart for $3. that is all i am using.

I plan on using better soil, nutes, and more lights for when i get my femanized seeds of some dank shit i got off Dr. Chronic.

Got new seedlings as well..Buying new (better) soil tomorrow..Am watching them for good roots before I move them to 1Gallon's. I was going to go straight to 3 gallon buckets, but figured I suck right now at nutes and watering, best to keep it small so I can manage better.

How are things looking on your end today?

No fan...no good. Sure looks like heat damage to me. Notice the top leaves are worse, cuz they are closer to the light? The hoods on your lights are holding in the heat from the ballast on the bulbs. And you didn't have a fan to move the hot air away. That combined with low RH will make your leaves curl up and get crispy edges. They might require more water than you've been giving them too. Take your temp readings in different locations, get a thermometer under that light next to your plant, I bet its WAYY to hot. I'd vent those hoods too. Good luck!

I thought those were somthing else....Just drill some hole in them, on top, so the heat can escape. but the addition of the fan might do the trick on its own. Ask the thermometer if the fan does the trick before you go drilling.

definatly not heat damage there is not even enough light/heat comming from those bulbs. i keep my cfls 1cm or closer and have never had any whithering. i would agree with the miracle grow theory. miracle grow is shitty for what your using it for. i would recommend some organic soils like happy frog or black gold. also you are probably over watering even if the nutes are not the problem. i dont water my plants until the soil is dry and i have had nothing but healthy plants. Also, superthrive is a great mixture to put in with the water when you water to help with root growth. i usually us superthrive when watering and i use it every other watering.

It could also have something to do with the ph. evertime you water the miracle grow soil it releases nutes which effect the ph of the soil. your ph could be off and that could be the reason the plants leaves are curling up.

How can you say its definitely not heat? We havn't got a temp reading from under those lights with the hoods on them.
I'm not guessing, I know from personal experience, and also astute observation that IT IS HEAT. The CFL itself does not get very hot, BUT the ballast under a hood with no fan on them will get HOT AS HELL! You should ALWAYS have air movement around your plants. Lights on and off. Its called transpiration and its how your plants get rid of waste. But not a hurricane or anything, just air movement. Too much wind and low humidity can cause windburn which would look exactly the same (edges curled up). I dont think those leaves will really recover, but you can still save the new growth. :peace:

I think mine was a combo of over-nute and no air movement/heat.
I guess I can just prune off the dead/yellowed out leaves? My original three plants were to get me eased into all this. I am expecting make mistakes with them. I am still going to try an save them so I can keep learning. The original three have been through A LOT however, so the yield most likely will not be much at all. Still though, will be good to continue learning.

My next batch is getting transplanted today. Along with the light and ari and new set up in general; I suspect the will over take the first three very quickly.

i havnt trimmed my leaves, but i think that is what you do with most other plants. i cant see how it could be any worse for the plant to cut off a leaf that is already dying. but i think my one plant that was really bad is going to slowly come back. and the other that was doing ok from before is doing great now.

i think my problem was tri-fold: overwater, not fluishing the miracle grow soil, and no air movement or fan.
i would also consider using a the miracle grow a mistake. i just used it because i was broke and used bagseed.
