my plant stems have tumors??

i have never seen this before. only one plant is affected, but it's thoroughly covered! it looks like it's been going on for a while because the tumors start out green then harden and turn brown.

I have no idea but some thoughts. Does this start as a sap leak. Can you pull them off without damaging the plant. Have you used preator bugs

i haven't touched any of them, i'm pretty positive the plant is male anyways so i'm going to trash it soon, maybe i'll dissect some of the lumps when i go to toss it
 
i ended up just culling the plant, it was a male anyways, and all the branches that had tumors also had fucked up leaves.. i think there was some systemic fungal infection or something

the images in the first post are full sized, only 300x400 pixels

i conducted an autopsy on the plant before tossing it and peeling the skin from the lumps revealed regular looking stalk fibre underneath. in this image the bottom is a peeled tumor and above it is normal stalk for comparison.
