My new setup

If anyone could link me to any sites with good fans, blowers, carbon filters,soil/nutes, and ballast hoods please do so...I'm also going with the hortilux 430w HPS bulb with enhanced blue spectrum for flower but for veg I have 2 4ft 2 bulb t8 fluorescents with warm and cool bulbs so a total of four bulbs two warm and two cool 32 watt 2700 lumens 6500k cool bulbs 32watt 2850 lumen 3000k warm bulbs. The plan is to eventually have a hydro setup with GH nutes two part with ebb n flow and a drip watering system, but the funds may cause me to go soil on the first crop.I plan on growing 4-5 plants in a 3x3x6 custom built box and the veg will be kept in my closet ill show pics later any feedback from experienced growers would be appreciated thanks.

(Possible Strains)
Snow White,Black Jack,AK-48,Train Wreck Looking for something more indica then sativa with a very strong taste and smell

Was thinking about maybe going with the new 400w lumatek bulbs? anyone had any experience with these bulbs?
Also what kind of bulb should I go for Son Agro,Hortilux,Digilux,Lumatek 400 or 430? Can a 430w bulb fit into a 400w ballast? thanks

that discount hydro store is just down the street from me. i go there to buy my stuff at their warehouse..they have good prices and lots of stuff so good choice buying from them..

if you go to the discount hydro site and look at the bulbs once more, check the digilux ones out. i bought a 400 watt digilux hps bulb and its a nice bulb. competes with hortilux. but the hortilux eye i believe is enhanced with blue spectrum.

also go with a next gen ballast..do you want a 1000 watt or how many watts do you want? the discount hydro sells a complete system with hood, bulb and ballast for a good price. i bought my 400 watt next gen ballast, digilux bulb and reflector all for $175.

and im pretty sure you can use a 430 watt in a 400 watt. just takes a lil more time to become its brightest.

also a 400 watt isn't much maybe a 600 watt. i wish i had went with the 600 watt over the 400.

dont know if i answered anything you asked right, i hope i helped tho at least.

018.jpgthe Digilux is superior to the hortilux, and it's not even close019.jpg
Here is what the hps and mh digilux do.

Thanks for the quick replies,I'm thinking of going with just the 400w for a few reasons heat issues, growing space, and the price is in my range.Eventually I will have a very nice setup but i'm just getting started.I'm looking at growing 4-5 plants max plus I'm wanting to yield atleast one ounce per plant every 2 months, that should be enough to keep me satisfied.I've looked into getting a 600w but with the heat issues and the price which is only about 100 more, the bulbs and a nice hood creates more money coming out of my pocket :).Also wouldn't 400w be enough to reach my goal of 1 ounce per plant? Please list a couple reasons why I should go with the 600w instead of the 400w I would like to hear your point of views. After researching a bit doesnt the digilux have the extra 25% blue spectrum just like the Hortilux I posted? Thanks again for the replies

600 watt digilux hps= 95,000 lumens and u could start to finish with either bulb [hps or mh], u cant do that with other bulbs

so instead of 55,000k in your 400 u could havee 95,000 and its not that hot dude. barely any more than a 400. i run a 6 inch inline fan, keep the speed control on low, and my temps are fine

Everything I have learned over the last few years of reading has came from Mr greens growing guide and these forums. My setup will be exactly the same as Mr Greens but the veg chamber will be in a closet under fluros and the flower chamber will be in a custom built box as I mentioned before.Getting started has proven to be a pain in my ass but im willing to do whats necessary to have the best setup and least risk of a fire hazard or getting caught.I'm mainly worried about making sure I'm getting the best equipment from the start without causing problems and waiting weeks to even get started. One problem is I'm very sketchy about buying products off the internet but I have no local hydro stores but their is one about an hour away that I will visit.Greencoast seemed to offer the best deal on that 400w setup so my heart has been set on that to get started, but the reflector just doesn't seem like it will get the job done.

Could you post a few pics of your setup so I could see? What ballast and reflector do you recommend? How much was your fan? List prices?

I was expecting around 58-60k lumens was figuring that would be plenty for my needs. Whats the difference in bud under a 400w rather than a 600w?

Because for 200 watts more [not that much] and a price difference for 50-100$ you are able to increase your lumen output by 40% or so. I mean 95,000 lumens is alot more than 58,000. You are going to be able to grow bigger, denser, better buds because the light is putting out more lumens.
Digital ballasts are very efficient, and the energy cost between a 400watt - compared to a 600 is a couple dollars a month. Look at it this way. a 400 watt is more like a big 250w. and a 600 watt performs like a small 1000watt.

Fan - hardware store. 6 inch inline duct fan 250 cfm= 30$
the ducting will run you like 15$
speedster - speed controller for fan
Reflector - Yieldmaster II - 110$
ballast - galaxy 600 watt digital [ green ] 250$
digilux bulbs are about 100$, i highly suggest starting with the MH, it is the best bulb on the market IMO, and spectrum is THE BEST, hands down, no questions asked.

Buy getting a 600 watt over a 400 watt, you are allowing yourself to enlarge your growspace down the road if needed. You wont look back and be like, "man I shoulda got the 600".

The fan that I have is a 400 cfm, that I run on the low setting. It cost around 140$ but I got it with the carbon filter as a package for 250$. The 250cfm fan from a hardware store is going to be completely fine and a lot cheaper in cost.

ya man i wish i had bought the 600...the 400 digilux bulb is great..i have no experience with the mh digilux bulb. but 600 is better over the 400. i messed up but i will get another 600 soon and keep the 400 for a back up..

holy fucking shit!!!! nice setup man you wasnt't bsing... about how much did all of that cost you? I was looking into getting the nextgen 600w/400w ballast for about 200$ then going from their with a hood and maybe even a 6 inch inline fan. I don't exactly understand how that inline fan works on the outside of your tent is that pulling air from the carbon into the tent? Also what are the dimensions of that tent? not exactly sure how the hell I could make all of this stealth your shit is setup all pro and shit but thats what I'm looking for.(Nice Job!)I would need to run all the wiring and that inline behind my box or something but now I'm thinking what the hell I should just get a tent but their is no stealth in that...Any thoughts on this?

the setup was about $1000 altogether, then theres soil and pots and la di da de da. so basically i have the carbon filter sitting on the ground. the fan sits on top of fit, and pulls air out of the tent and pushes it through the filter. And thats it.... For fresh air, I just leave a vent open and air gets sucked in [negative air pressure], no need for another fan. To lightproof the fact that im keeping a vent open I simply attached like 4 feet of ducting that sticks out and it bends, so no light :) simple

what have you found to be the difference between growing with the MH and the HPS? I've always heard the HPS is better for flowering???? Also what were the final harvests looking like? The differences in harvests using each bulb?

well your exactly right, I happened to own both bulbs. For vegetation the MH is best because of the blue spectrum. If this was the only bulb you had you'd still be in great shape because the yellows that this bulb has is impeccable.. it has the yellows of some HPS's.
As for HPS, the lumens increase to 95,0o0, the MH is at 75,000 lumens, [mH is always less lumens]
So this HPS that has 95k gives you insane spectrum needed for flower. I havent harvested/compared the bulbs at all.. When it's time to flower i'll put in the hps

Sorry I just realized you posted the dimensions above your pics...This is a great setup you have going just what I was looking for, this was a little bit bigger than I was expecting. Do you think I could be successfull growing 4-5 plants using a 3x3 tent with the 600w or would it cause problems? Also what size inline fan and carbon filter would I be looking for with a tent or box this size? (3x3x6.5) Sorry for asking so many questions but it is very much appreciated to here your opinions.Your making me have a hard time deciding what I'm wanting to do now but this is a good thing!!!!!!!One last question for tonight,Have you had any experience growing soil less with just water and nutes or have you only grown with soil? If soil less whats your nutes and is it worth it money wise or if soil might i ask what your soil mix would be? Any information in both areas would help me alot thanks again man.
