Alright so I harvested my girls. They smelled like straight gasoline while trimming. Super pungent smell, right. I dried some, jarred it and that’s where it’s at right now.

Here’s what I don’t understand. Maybe I missed something. How can my harvest smell so damn good wet but as soon as it dries it smells like nothing? I stick my nose in the jar and the jar and its contents literally smell like nothing. It’s been curing for a few weeks. Will time bring out the smell?

That is a good question. Did you dry it all as soon as you harvested, or did you dry it gradually by burping the jars daily?

Edit - I dig your thread tag...
Dried and burped for sure.

Sometimes it smells like nothing for a while and then suddenly after about 4 weeks it is like FWAAAOWW!!! Take a bud and crush it up and smoke it... see what it says.
It tastes good and smokes great

When I first started I used to dry my weed to a certain extent, jar it, then burp those jars daily until they were at optimum humidity. Sometimes it would work just fine, and sometimes it would lose most of its smell. Maybe those times were user error, but I'm not sure. Like ANC said, sometimes the smell would come back, but usually not for me. Since I've stopped that practice and just dry it as soon as I harvest, I've never had my weed lose its smell. If it gets too dry I simply stick a fan leave in the jar overnight and it's perfect. Curing: some swear by it, but to me it's an unnecessary step that can fuck shit up...

I've experienced something similar, and do the same. My drying space is spot on 70f and 60%rh when drying now and its much easier, no rush to get them jarred up which I'm sure would be convenient for a large garden.

Have you harvested this variety before? Did you do anything differently as compared to your past successful harvests?

As far as I can think, every variant is the same.

Those are nicely trimmed good looking buds !!
I used to dry and smoke with no problem at all....back in the day....a good buzz too. It appears to be wrong thing to do if you want the smoothest and best flavor + high.
I'm taking down 2 WW tomorrow....1 girl doesn't smell much at all....the other's terpenes are extremely pungent.
Some buds don't smell till you break them open

My 1st grow in 11yrs.....this also will be my 1st real cure ! Am anxious to do this because it HAS to make for a better smoke.!!
If it smelled before harvest....and unless it over dried during your drying process.....those smells should come back.

I'm guessing it;s a good buzz ?? As long as you like the process you developed that keeps that nice aroma....stick with what makes YOU happy. If you don't want to cure...skip it and enjoy your grow the way you want....not what others think you should do.
Otherwise ...like suggested....reexamine your journals to see what might have gone differently on the grows.
For myself....curing all the way.
Good luck !!.... I will be anxious to see if "the smell" comes back.

Peace & Puff

PS....many have posted that the Bovida packs absorb the smell of the weed...a whiff the pack and you can tell. I've never tried them.

When I harvest weed, I pretrim as much as I can while it's still standing the day before I cut. I also skip watering a few days ahead.

Then, cut and hang 2 days. Cut all the buds off and lay flat 1 day. Into huge curing jars usually by day 4.

R/h will be in the 70's so I'm burping more than once a day. Sometimes, I have to empty a jar to lay out flat again for a couple hrs. if it seems too high r/h.

Sometimes I burp just by opening jar and running a 4" fan down into a gallon jar for a couple minutes.

It always stinks when I open jars, but they aren't dry yet. I have had jars still in the 60's a year later.

It's almost always humid here in summer. What it is outside is 5 pts. higher than drying area (but again, I only dry for 3 days). You can put a 4" fan over a jar and watch you r/h drop into the 60's, put the lid back on and watch it rise up to the 70's in a few hours.

Over time, you lose a point each time you do it. When it's 66-67, I just burp once a day without the 4" fan, sometimes once every 36 hours.

I've never had mold in a jar doing this.
