My Mexican Ditch Weed

Indoor Sun King

Well-Known Member
Started germinating these seeds obtained from Mexican ditch weed I bought in Puerto Vallarta..... started germinating them on Dec 30..... they started to sprout around Jan 2nd.

I put 2 into soil cups and 2 into peat plugs and 2 into rock wool...... trying to experiment with germinating mediums

The plugs and wool were about the same but the soil cups were brutal, as one did not sprout and the other was 4 days behind

Anyhow, this is my journal for my 2014 indoor grow.

3:1 perlite/vermiculite and soil capped.....GH Maxi-Grow/Bloom, Cal-Mag and pH +

Mexican ditch weed is a one hitter quitter.
You take one hit and tastes so bad you don't want another!

Just kidding, and I hope your grow turns out much better
then expected.
yeah, don't know what to expect with them.....I'm growing them for the fun of it, and the pot tasted like the 70's which was cool

they are only 23 watt CFL's, so you can be as close as an inch or even less, never had an issue

More light is not always better but you know what you're doing, it was just an observation.......& hey I have grown seeds from mexican brick weed and had good results......years ago I grew some in perlite in a flood and drain set up.......not A+ quality but a strong B......hehe.......

I put my plants under the 600 HPS and four 23 watt 6500K CFL for the additional spectrum.

The temps are running a bit low (72-75F) but that should increase once I turn the HPS to 100%

The plants are just starting to kick in, as they have grown a fair bit since my last post a week ago.

I'm happy with my new DIY setup in a spare bedroom, and it's very stealth from both inside and out.

My building manager needed to enter my apartment, I didn't even blink as it's that well hidden

Added an additional white shower curtain to help reflect the light better and fixed up the mylar wall and a few more fans as I'm running the HPS at 100% now

I'm watering every second day, as they are starting to suck up the water at a good pace now

Temps are between 78 to 82 and drop to about 55 to 58 at night (a bit cool but I'm not going to run a heater)

Day 34 from seed to soil/plug/rock-wool

You know they are growing fast when there is a noticeable difference when I return home from work.

There is one runt of the litter, I'll be choked if it's the only female.

Today I changed two of the 6500K CFL's for 5000K

cheers

I flipped to 12/12 yesterday, my plants seem happy and are looking better.

I gave them a 50/50 mix of MaxiGrow & MaxiBloom but will soon eliminate the veg'in MaxiGrow

I'm letting them go 48 hours between watering, they are going bone dry but no issues.

I had a drooping issues which have reduced since lifting the lights some more, but still have one that is clawing on the top leaves.

I'm hoping for 2 or 3 females but I have this bad feeling that I'll be lucky to get one.

cheers

It's has been over a week now that my plants are on 12/12 and still no definitive signs of gender, the anticipation is killing me

They have grown allot in one week, as if they are still in veg mode.

I am now using Maxi-Bloom only, mostly because I believe the maxi-Grow was too high in nitrogen and was causing it to droop and claw

Anyhow, I'm sure the gender will show soon

cheers

BTW: Nizza, I installed some safety chains as you are right the coat rack is a bit on the flimsy side, so better safe than sorry, thanks for the feedback

I'm guessing that Mexey seeds are mostly sativa, and normally grow in a near equatorial area, where there is never more than 14hrs/day of sunlight or less than 10. I once grew a Tia strain that took 50+ days of 12/12 to show sex and then only after dropping the hrs of light. I would drop your light on time to 10.5 hrs till they show sex which will be about a wk. You can then increase the light time to 11 on.

Since I'm always growing some sort of sativa, I start my flip at 11/13 and after 6 or 7 wks I'll drop it again to 10.5.
