My lil sprouts! (Long read)

So, I pull what few seeds I could find out of a fantastic bag of weed, and start researching just about anything I could find on Marijuana. I buy a few lil pots and germinate the seeds in a glass of water, which might I add these things sprouted fast. Now mind you, its probably better to use the paper towel method, but I am a noob and hadnt read that one yet at the time of germinating. So I figured, hey, these things are probably going to die, being that at first they developed a weird moldy fungus in their first batch of soil, which I used from some old pots frozen and covered in snow and last summer's dead vegetation lol. So I corrected the situation and found some african violet soil in the shed at my mommas house, and "borrowed" the bag. Its the middle of winter here in Massachusetts and cold as a welldigger's ass. After pulling them from the old, used, contaminated with whatever fungus soil, I washed them all off with slightly warm water. Now Im like, shit these things are definitely gonna die. Its too cold, you arent even using a grow lamp yet, and they are probably getting more dark than light. Anyway, I replant them in nice fresh soil, african violets will probably grow instead lol.
I have touched the roots in the process of cleaning and transplanting, accidentally pulled one of the 3 sprouts out by accident and replanted them in better materials, and would you friggin believe they are alive! and not only alive, but very very green, no yellows or browns, though the stems are slightly bergundyish in color. I know I know, with my luck they will all be males, but it sure is exciting to imagine that even though its only 3 plants, maybe, just maybe, I will be lucky and the Gods will see fit to allow me one decent harvest of my own, organic lovely bag of bud. Folks these seedlings are no more than 2 inches tall out of the pots but I swear they have survived about every form of abuse I clumbsily dished out. Im watering them about every 2-3 days. Trying to give them as much sunlight as I can, which isnt easy indoors and in winter. Anyway, Im going to buy a lamp today. Worse I have to fear is having to start again only in better conditions. The fungus is completely gone and they almost lean towards the direction of the sun. How I will ever bring myself to smoke these lil guys when they grow up Ill never know. I have grown attached. They are like my little retarded children that refused to go down without a fight. So, there you have it, my story. 3 lil 2 week old buds that have not had an easy birth. I guess my question to you guys being that your experts, is what should I do now? Do you think the cold climate has guaranteed all male plants and Im screwed no matter what I do?
Or do you think my plants will be SUPER POT! Having survived the worst that nature and dumb humans have to offer, and is guaranteed to get me so high that I try to communicate with insects and small rodents?
Im not sure when to switch to bigger containers, when to change the soil etc. I guess any oddball advice or tips for such a small indoor harvest is what Im looking for. No interest in selling, I just want me and my friends to partake in the delight of a hard earned home grown bag of doobage.
Anyway, thats my story, these plants are about 2 weeks old, maybe more. They are growing a little slow, but look so damn green and healthy.

Dutch Passion Seed Co. published an environmental manipulation:

Quote:
From literature and our own findings it appears that the growth of a male or female plant from seed, except for the predisposition in the gender chromosomes, also depends on various environmental factors. The environmental factors that influence gender are:

* a higher nitrogen concentration will give more females.
* a higher potassium concentration will give more males.
* a higher humidity will give more females.
* a lower temperature will give more females.
* more blue light will give more females.
* Fewer hours of light will give more females.

It is important to start these changes at the three-pairs-of-leaves stage and continue for two or three weeks, before reverting to standard conditions.

Having said that, keep growing your superweed! I'm really close to you, and deal with the same temps too. In fact I get up to great barrington mass all the time.
Peace! :joint:

Hey thanks alot man. Oh and yes, If Im understanding you correctly sir, you are quite close in location. As far as things like PH balance, and nitrogen, mixing soils correctly are all the types of tasks I have never been good at, so its something Im going to have to be disciplined with. I also dont have alot of room, and am too paranoid to buy all the things I need at once, especially this time of year lol. I can hear them now at the home depot as I would be walking out with a lamp, soil, fertilizer etc lol "look at this asshole, says hes gonna grow tomatoes lol" Again though, finding a bag of grass is few and far inbetween so I am particularly afraid of them being all males, but like I said. Will teach me to try harder next time if thats what happens. Anyway, thank you for the advice.

If I were you and on a budget, I'd grow with all cfl's, very effecient and low cost too, both upfront cost and electricity usage too. I woud net be paranoid about shopping in home depot, they dont care, they just want your money dude.

Figured id toss in an update fellas. Got a small natural daylight bulb for these lil greens and will buy something bigger next week. Also got a timer which I have no idea how to use and Im reluctant to attempt setting it while Im so stoned. Looks like the back of an alien's hard drive. Anyway, Im getting excited, Im praying praying praying that atleast 1 of these 3 plants will become a female.

Figured id toss in an update, though I know its not all that interesting being void of pics. Im going to try to get a new webcam next week. My 3 plants are doing good. Still dont know what sex they are though the biggest.
The height of the tallest is about 6" and they seem to be growing outward, so 6" may not seem like much, but it appears pretty full and compact.
One single leaf has what looks like some dark dark almost rust colored splotches.
Im going to try as hard as I can to see these plants through flowering and get some bud off them. One of the plants is kind of sad and droopy, which happens to be the same one my puppy damaged sligtly by biting half of two leaves off. If they dont make it, then they dont. Its just bag seed.
Just practice for the upcoming white widow. I suppose what Im doing is reading reading reading and more reading while I try to build the best 3 plant grow set up I can. Anyway, the biggest one almost looks as if is forming a flower directly in the middle, though im sure its just new leaves. I really cant say I remember how old the plants are now. Will be keeping much better tabs on the real grow attempt. Think we are somewhere around 5-6 weeks. Maybe more, my memory is shit lol

Ya know,
Not to bump my own thread, but I was thinking, I should actually be ok once I learn the complex stuff, particularly, nutes/PH/Harvesting. Its 3 plants at a time cant be rough on the resources. This is really exciting and its nice to forget about them for a day and then take a peak and be like holy shit they friggin grew that much overnight. Oh and let me tell you, I got one decent 40 dollar bulb made by some old scientist who researched lights and plants for like 30 years or something. (Hey thats hat it said on the packaging lol) The other bulb is your basic spiral flur.. and seems to not help at all, its orange in shade and warmer than the grow bulb. This week im building the actual grow box, with some type of 3 prong fixture and some mylar. This bulb is relatively new, now it is a cfl, and runs on very few watts, however it is very different to look at and I think 3 of these fastened to a reflector should be enough to grow 3 white widow plants. Temperature control will be the only bitch because this house is poorly insulated and its cold as shit outside. Room dropped to about 59 degrees once and I woke up freezing, yet still these damn plants just wont die. Anyway, just gettig excited lol
