My wasps appear to be Paper Wasps AKA: red wasps. They are much less problematic than parasitic wasps. I found info on these and other Texas insects at this site!~~http://insects.tamu.edu/fieldguide/cimg348.html ....this site is run by Texas A&M. A&M Is a good source on Texas plants and insects! If I only could study it there - I wouldn't get in academically!

Plus here's a pic of a young, active paper wasp starting new nest!

i have some wasp freeze thats a nightmare for those varments.
I no longer use brut force with these wasps. It's not necessary. These wasps aren't the poster child for dangerous and bothersome wasps

As a part of my organic program, I only knock down and remove the active nests that are on my house itself! I try not to disturb any wild-life on my property if possible! That means only using organic wasp spray as a last resort. It works just fine....I keep knocking any nests down on my house and they move on. I don't really get many wasps nest on my house anymore

feed store...about 12.00 bucks for 4 gallons....ive sprayed about 8 gallons so far...fixing to spray my trees again...

I get all kinds of great gardening supplies at my local feed store! It's a great resource!

^^^^ Extreme cases call for extreme actions. I use a chemical stump killer when I need to kill an invasive vine. It's the only thing that works. A couple gallons of 20% vinegar + a few ounces of orange oil just won't do it......

Being organic doesn't mean I think these chemicals shouldn't exist, on the contrary, keep the ones that are relatively safe to use when needed - and then pass laws to ban the worst chemical fertilizer/herbicide/insecticides that are out there. Minimize the risk to the environment and people while using less of it. Use it when you need it. Don't just stock up on chemicals to have around! LOL!

That's the way I see it!! :)

Whats problematic about parasitic wasps? They are beneficial to the garden. So are paper wasps, but they sting people.

As far as pesticides are concerned, I dont use any. They kill beneficial bugs too. Not to mention I eat what I grow and I dont want to be spraying my food with deadly poisons.

.
Probably nothing. I saw a video of a parasitic wasp injecting larvae into caterpillars and I thought of my monarch butterfly caterpillars.....I'm reading that wasps are benefitial! I guess these can be benefitial, too....even if it appears that the caterpillar gets a raw deal! Such is life, tho!

I've got some Cicada Killers at my house and I never bother them cuz I'd be stung pretty bad....BUT, if i'm cool to them and don't show aggression, they will let me watch them pretty close. It's crazy what these guys do....I guess I don't care much about the cicadas cuz I've got tons of them! The cicada season is about to start and my Cicada Killers are getting ready for it! Last yr I watched them catch cicada after cicada! The female will inject its larvae into it and then the famale will drop them between cracks in my patio....drops them to a shaded spot below! Down there, the cicada will die and the larvae will have a food source! I'm gonna get some pics of them again this yr! I don't know why I would worry about a parasitic wasp when these Cicada Killers are RELENTLESS towards these cicadas! I'm mean, these guys will kill over 40 cicadas this yr!

^^ I hear you...When you move away from the inner city of concrete and buildings to a wild area like a lake, you have tons of different insects and other wildlife to deal with! When I lived by a lake, I had a possum enter my house while I wasn't looking! Gee whiz! What a good time to have a dog! Possums have nasty teeth! It played dead and left after I picked it up with a shovel & put it outside! Now I'm in the wild but not near a lake.....it's awesome here!

^^^ I'm hoping to get my own video clips this yr when the cicadas finally show up! It's only days from starting, really! I've got a few Cicada Killers on my back patio again this yr! They are getting ready for their chase to reproduce! They are too busy reproducing to give a $hit about me, really - not unless I'm a serious threat & I will get stung like a m*therfucker!! If I show respect to them, they will let me get close enough to watch and film!!

:leaf: Hi, again! Today I've got some pics of my latest projects - container gardening!! It can be hard to do here where I live but if I pick the right plants, it will work! Usually a yucca or cactus or some native will survive as a potted plant in our heat!

So, I'm currently working on adding some containers around my pool! In the left pic you can see I've got 2 pots so far - I may add 1 more! The plant on the right is a native twist leaf yucca! The one on the left is not planted yet! - Right pic- This angle shows the edge of my pool! When I get these containers going with flowers and all, they will be a great accent to the pool!

Here's an Aloe Vera I have in the shade under my back porch! This plant was harvested a while ago and is now growing back! It's growing towards the light & is in a strange shape!

And here's one more with my dog in the shot....This is a crape myrtle I bought at a garage sale! I don't have a place to plant it so it's still in a container for now!
