My first grow

Couple questions:

I just started with my first grow a couple hours ago. I'm starting out with 2 clones. I was wondering how far at first to keep my lights above the plants. Right now they're sitting ~6 inches from the tops. I have 4 2" florescents

Second question is how can I tell if my plants are getting enough light or to much?

You should be fine for now , to be sure put your hand right above your plant , if its not hot on your hand it wont be hot on the plant . I dont think you can have to much light , the rule of thumb is the more light the better . What spectrum lights do you have 6500k daylight , 2700k soft white , 3500k bright white ?

2 of the lights are 2700k soft white and 2 are 3500k bright white.

I was going to keep the lights at that level for ~1 week and then move them up to 1 1/2' above after that for the of the veg period.

Right on, thanks. I'm going to post some pictures in the next couple days of my setup and what I have going so far. I'm an odd little system I have going that I made last night because I wanted a hydro system and a separate veg and flower room.
