Hi all,

I just checked my beans and I think they are ready to go into soil. Is this mix ok for their first potting?

1 third soil,
1 third compost,
1 third perlite.

This is my first grow.

Peace.

Ive recently been using Fox Farms Happy Frog and just adding 2tbsp of dolomite lime per gallon of soil. I prepare this mix in advance and water with distilled water and let sit for 1-2 weeks. Works great for me. No nute lockout. HF contains the above mentioned ingredients along with quite a few more. A lot of people use Fox Farms Ocean Forrest soil too. They are not much different in composition except for the crushed shells. Price wise by the time you purchase your ingredients you can just buy the FF ocean forrest or happy frog for the same cost. Check your local hydro stores. I would definitely add some dolomite lime( not hydrated!) at about 2-3 tbsp per gallon of soil. This will balance the PH of the soil and you can thank me later!

Wait to use any fertilizer for at least 2 weeks, by this time your seedlings should have about 3 nodes and a decent root system.

PH balance your water to 6.5. Plain or fertilized water should be 6.5 PH. Only fertilize every other watering. PH balance your water after you add your nutes.

You will need a decent PH meter. I use this one for now Milwaukee PH600

Dont water every day! Let your containers go through a wet/dry spell. You want to keep the soil moist, but not totally saturated as the roots need oxygen. Use the lift pot method. Water your container until fully saturated, pick up the container and note the weight mentally with your hands. When the pot feels light.... water, but dont let the pot completely dry out.

good luck bro
