This thread is about the use of two different LEDs growing 3 GG#4's each under a 3'6" trellis. These plants were a bit tall, leggie, & out of control so I bent them under the trellis scrog style & hit the switch to 12/12 w/o letting them grow into the net.
The 2 lights being used are the Amare SE-450 enhanced white (Canna-Specific) light & the Hydroponics Hut X5-500 using a spectrum high in Red & Blue but still enough green to be a full spectrum. The Amare is considered to me as a PAS light or full Photosythetic Action Spectrum light providing the plant with the entire spectrum, similiar to that of the sun, on the Equetirial line to be more specific. The Hydroponics Hut light is what I consider to be an RQE light or Relevent Quantum Efficiency light. This will provide the plant with primarily the Reds & Blues being the Peaks for Chlorophyll A & B receptors.
Many have been successful & happy with their R+B based panels & now there is a trend of many poeple preferring to grow with white Kelvin Temp. Lighting.
I personally started studying LED last year, right before 5 watt Monos started being used. Also saw COB lighting break through the market. I heald back to make my purchase until I felt I obtained enough knowledge on the topic & the newer technolgy was dialed in. Seeing how I began my LED journey when R+B panels were the scientifically said way to use LED to grow to get the most from your plant, I had to purchase one light of each to test & see for myself how my plants reacted to the different lighting. Both lights have COBs with surrounding 5 watters & are running between 450-535 watts I believe.
Amare was a pleasure to do business with & openly answered all my questions & then some. They make no claims but say "our products results will speak for themselves".
Hydroponics Hut was Kind've tough to get ahold of & would not disclose any information that was not on their web-site. I asked about PAR, They told me they were going to include it on their site or would send it to me but neither happened & I couldn't get a response about it. They have some interesting claims on their site that I really wanted to believe when I first stumbled upon them. What I liked about their technology was they were able to provide their select spectrum primarily with one diode rather than using mono colored diodes that would have to mix on their way down to the plant leaving uneven spectral coverage.
I'm an HPS grower growing with LED as my main light for the first time. So far I've noticed a substantial decrease in heat. To the point where I'm not even needing an AC yet running 1600watts of LED in a 10'x10' room.
These GG's were vegged for about 2, 3/4 months in a tight closet competing for the light. They were stretched out, week, & 2 of them even broke prior to this. Each side has one plant that broke within a week of starting flower. All six plants were cloned from the same broken GG branch. I accidentally put the bigger plants on The Amare side as that light covered the 4'x4' section w/o the lenses & the HH Covered 3'x3' with its lenses that are non-removable. Both lights were suspended from their cables only & could not be raised without doubling up the cables which is done now so to cover the 4'x4' area utilizing both lights lenses. Struggling to cover the canopies though.
It's the end of the first week almost now.
I'm just journaling my experience with these lights & this strain. This is not a side by side to see the most GPW as one side had slightly bigger plants, but it is a side by side for me & others to access the performance of these two lights & their different approach to selected spectrums used.
Lights: - Amare SE-450
- Hydroponics Hut X5-500
Strain: GG#4
Nutrients: TechNaFlora with supplemental Nutes from Heavy-16, AN, Rock Rez, & Terpinator
Pots: 7 gallon
Co2: Yes
Medium: 50% CoCo-LoCo (FoxFarms) 25% Miosture, 25% Aeration (Biotanicare)

Getting good response from both sides. The Amare side is getting more overall growth. Both lights seem to be penetrating well & hitting the branches below. Heat's not to bad. Both run fairly quite.

If they started the same size the am are is killing the hydro hut. Nice grow.

The HH worked real well in the short period I had to test it on veg. image.jpgimage.jpg Less then a week later. It outperformed my 8 bulb 4' T-5 all day using half the watts.

Put the lenses on the Amare today. These are real-deal lenses. They appear to be solid glass. image.jpgimage.jpg

Actually, I regret to say I put the slightly bigger ones on the Amare side. Same age n clone n poor veg conditions but the Amare side covered the 4'x4' w/o the lenses just fine & the HH footprint was smaller so I Kind've set the screen that way.

How far above the canopy on the Amare fixture? In inches?
Thank you
Right now it's about 26-27" off the canopy & covers approx. 38-40". I think I'll need at least 30" off the canopy to cover the 4'x4' with the lenses on. W/o lenses I can drop it down & still cover so maybe I'll experiment with taking some off & leaving some on to get the footprint as I have no room to raise the light any further.
Both lights cover approx. 38"-42" @ 27" hieght from the canopies w/ lenses.

Took the two center lenses off the Amare today to accomplish more coverage. It worked but I'm thinking I'll probobly drop the light down a bit to where it was & go w/o lenses on this one. Liking the coverage & plant response to the reflectors. I'm a lil low for lenses & 26". Leaves stopped praying as much with the intensity. Suggested hieght is 30"-36" by the manufacturer w/ lenses.
The HH is doing well & covering the canopy @ about 38", although the canopy is a little smaller on this side. Some branches under the trellis are growing up & will fill the trellis better soon.
I'd say both sides have enough plant for their light & both sides look good. Noticed a bit more new growth on the Amare side but still allot on the HH side. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Growth on the solar spec is killing it.

image.jpg I feel like I understand how to use the Amare better now. This light is designed to be high-up 30"-42" up off the plant with the lenses on. I cannot achieve that here so I've decided to go w/o them. Its now 24" off the canopy & it's not from me lowering it. There's a good stretch going on. Might drop it to be suspended from the full cables length, rather then doubled back like they are now. The spread is much better now but I may have to put a separating peice between the two sides cuz the Amares' spread is now hitting way over to the HH side & I'd really like to know how each does on its own. The Hydroponics Hut X5-500 is covering better then I initially thought. Areas that weren't as bright I Kind've counted out but now I see allot of the shorter branches around the edges starting to catch up. The light is less intense around the edges but Maybe they will strive off the spectrum high in R+B. This side looks like the bottom & edges that started below the trellis are about to pop through.
Both sides seem very happy! I'll be checking the 2 broken plants wounds next week. The back left plant on the AM side split a large branch off & was taped up & the back left plant on the HH side took a harder hit, breaking dead in half 1/3 up. Never had that happen & I thought I was gonna lose her but I taped a stiff wire/metal peice to it & she made it just fine. Both broke about 6 days before switch. These plants were very week & tall when they came outta the small closet veg space. Happy to say both are doing fine.

Nice work everything is looking good. It definitely looks to me like you could lose the amare a bit without losing any coverage. Basing my opinion from the arc on the wall and experience with bare cobs lol. Just watch for bleaching.

;-)Wish I had built a double trellis. If I did I would've had to set the bottom one lower to be proportioned properly & really don't think I would've been able to bend them under w/o snappage.
Didn't take a pic. Today but bothe sides have adjusted to their light & shot like 1,1/2-2" over night! Especially the White side. It appears the full spectrum enhanced (with R+B) white (PAS) creates more overall sites, growth & stretch. Although the enhanced (with green) Red + Blue (RQE) side deffinetly is no slouch. If I wasn't comparing the two, pretty sure I'd be happy with the HH on its own at this point from what I see.
That's with me comparing both of these LEDs to my HPS this far. Because the real test for these lights for me, is not necessarily between the two but LED lighting to my HPS.
About to build a 14'x11' that I recently acquired & have been considering switching to LED all year. Trying to find the light that will be my primary for that room. So, I'm testing for GPW, G/sq', plant reaction, bud weight & density, heet, electric, how close can I grow, RQE vs. PAS approaches in spectrum, how are the companies to work with, & other things I can't think of.
A 4'x4' area gives me 1.5-2 lbs. using 1,283 watts about. One side has side lighting the other does not but that would be the average overall room lighting/watts # used for 4'x4' in the HPS room. In there the lights are spread into each other & there's no spot w/o canopy so those 4'x4's are a full from edge to edge but not as densely packed as these. These lights are less then half the watts used & they would have a different environment rather then sectioned off. I have to take all this into consideration as well.
So far, I'm liking the LEDs. I can see them rocking my room. Hoping to find out if I can get away with 1/2 the watts or 2/3's without Yeild depreciation.

Lowered the Amare today & put Panda Wrap up on the HH side wall. Contemplating dividing the 2 now that the white side spreads over w/o lenses. Getting a lil wind-burn on the front side from the oscillating fan. Going to get it up higher soon. image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

When height is an issue I use a nutrient by Mills called Vitilize. Some may be familiar with Aptus. It's pretty much the same thing. Don't know the details off hand but it's a special Silica w/ other things that builds plant vigor & reduces stretch. It works well with most of my strains but not so much on the GG. This stuff is incredible though & if heights ever an issue I recommend trying it in veg & the beginning of flower. I don't use it after week 3.
Another supplemental Nute I use is Heavy-16 Roots ever other feed in veg & up until week 3,1/2 of flower @ once a week.
Both are expensive but can be seen working. I like to see my Nute do its job, ha!

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Added an 18" oscillating fan to the wall up high today. Some wind-burn set in from the other one banging on the front of the scrog but it should be fine now. Also got the AC duct in to transfer cool air over the plants. Never want to do that again. Lol, what a bitch!
Had lowered the Amare the other day, it's time to raise it again. I will tom. Wanna see how the plant does with it low like this for today.
Surprised to see more stretching on the enhanced white side as opposed to the enhanced R+B side. Then again I heard about the big stretch you get from the Amare. I'll say though, it's not just a stretch, many bud-sites & new shoots appeared with it.
Both sides look good. I left some lower branches towards the back of both sides to test for penetration. Both penetrate well. I'll take an accessment in a few days of the lower branches.

Dude I just looked at vitalize by mills..its $300 a liter ,thats just nuts for some 0-2-1 silica..jesus,lol.
yeah, why not just mix some amorphous diatomaceous earth into the soil? it's
a very high % plant available silicate(as opposed to crystallized diatomaceous
earth which is a relatively low %), just requires the microbes to convert the DE
to silicic acid. a bag of diatomaceous earth costs ~$8, and it's enough for 50
gallons of soil.

I know, redic. It's cheaper @ my local store. But for real, this stuff is magic in a bottle. Out where I live it's basically as common as Clonex! All the big growers here use it. Took me a year to try It (Aptus), then Vitilize came out @ a lil cheaper so I gave it a shot. 3 ml. To 5 gall. & it works right away & a small bottle lasts all year depending on how many plants. On my other strains, I only need to use it in veg just a few times & don't even need to in flower cuz it's already in the plant. It really throws the brakes on em. The GG is the only one I've had to hit a few more times w/ it & it's still not as effective as 1 or 2 uses on others strains. Some poeple use the alternative called the Yellow Bottle but my buddy says its just not the same. I know though, some of these Nutes are crazy priced. For me, this stuff is a necessity though.
Someday I want to learn to grow with natural salts & raw forms. But right now, I get great results from my current Nute plan.
How's that Apache working out for ya? I gotta swing by tonight n check it out.
