i ran out of sponges and the baskets so i used a film holder for a camera and put soil in it wit a hole at the bottom hopefully it work out well..and how long does it usually take for the seed to start growing

Try using rapid rooter instead of soil.

Justin121: almost any hydroponics store will have Rapid Rooters. The only problem is that they're too big for the holes in your A/G. You can cut them down but I've found that to be more work than it's worth. You can buy new grow pods and cages from A/G. they're having a bulk sale and they're cheaper right now. Still expensive, but cheaper.

It takes about two seconds to cut a rapid rooter down to size.
