I plan to run a zero veg sog 1'x3'x4' with two 150w econolight cheapo lights. (yea those ones anyone can buy in the US for $20 ea)

30k lumens over 3sf

Does anyone want to take on a challenge with cfl's against it? Same conditions.

I mean just for fun, see who can pull the most and if either type can beat the other?

If you don't think that's a fair deal:
I'll be doing soil...You can do hydro
$5 dept store nutes and miracle grow soil... You can go nuts with additives and spendy nutes and whatever.
No co2... You can if you like.
Flat white paint... You can use mylar
And I'll even let you match lumens... Not just watts

Throwing down the challenge.

wait wait .. your gonna use 300 watts of hps , and your challenging someone to use 300 cfl watts ? that's unfair.. you'll win hands down

Are you so sure? There is a lot of opposition from the cfl guys and some of those guys can do crackalacking grows...

cfl's around 26w or so are pretty close to the same lumen per watt (so I'm told)

hps will win for sure.

cfl's do great things no doubt, but hps are the perfect light for flowering

I'll give them hydro advantage... CO2 also, I won't be adding any.

Maybe I'll also limit myself to department store $5 nutes.

im a cfl grower, 150 w of cfls would lose to 150w hps, but not alot if done right, but it would for sure @ 300w

Of course I'll post when I get going but I haven't even started clones yet though. And no suitable plant yet thanks to a spider mite party. And still have no suitable beans either. Nor have I selected a strain that would be appropriate yet still fairly strong.

I'll get there.

The cab is upper kitchen cabinet like your dishes are probably in. Remote ballast conversion, twin hoods made from 6" furnace ducting opened at the seam and bent into batwings painted flat white with high temp car spray paint and hung on chains, and a bathroom $14 fan for exhaust at the top and passive intake on the bottom.

Crazy crazy cheap setup... Under $100 all included

I may go even easier and just cut round holes in the back of the cab to shove the bulb part of the light into and leave the ballasts just hanging their asses out the back skipping the remote ballast trouble. Could even skip reflectors and just let the light bounce off the top of the cab.
