Ok so I have been working on my plants for a little less than a month now and it has all been CFL's, well I couldn't pass up the $32 Econolight shipped, and I spent less than $30 on the materials to make a remote ballast and reflector. Here it is:

Wow that was a lot of money you spent to make the reflector and remote the ballast. $30?
You could have used any flat piece of metal you might have or buy cheap to make a batwing, they're very effective. And an extension cord for the wire to remote the ballast and to get the plug in cord end you need. That and wire nuts.
You didn't have any flat piece of metal around the house, or an extension cord to sacrifice?
Na, the metal was $9.00, the flat white high temp paint $5.99, nuts and bolts were around $3.00, wire caps $1.00, L bracket was $2.00, extension cords $9.

I guess I'm spoiled having a house full of crap, rarely do I need to pay for stuff like that because there's always some substitute on hand. I usually always have wire or wire nuts or whatever stuff like that.
I'd probably be better off having an empty garage though and just paying the prices you did. It's going to cost me $1000 to get a new fabric top on an 8 year old cadillac because the garage is full of other junk rather than cars.
Haha well I just moved into this house so I haven't accumulated any junk yet, but its all good I won't have to pay for barely anything on the next grow.
