Mould problems!

Hi all,

I could really do with some help please, I'm trying to get my set-up running but having some problems with mould. I'm currently using an old fish tank for a grow room thats foiled over all the sides. I have a vent running out passed the bulb to keep the tank ventilated plus, later on today I will be putting in another fan for circulation. The problem I have though is, once I get the seeds ready to go into the soil, I put them in a propagator, the humidity seems to build up quite high, but all I know is, within a couple of days I start to get mould... i've tryed raising the lid of the propagator and all but nothing works, I now have removed the lid so it's just in the tank.. but it worries me because i think the temp is a bit low for the seeds... I did have a digi themometre/hydromiter but its packed up on me now and i haven't got the money at the moment to replace it. Also I have the slight problem of no matter whether the soil is in the propagator or not, the soil does not dry out properly.. I did wonder if it was, I was over watering them but i have now started watering by spraying the soil's surface but it still hangs and I do not know why nor how to deal with it... I keep trying to get things started but seems the same problem over and over, but i dunno what to do. Any idea's would be grately appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Rob

remove that fish tank and ull be fine. theres no circualtion/ventillation in a glass tank + it hold heat verry well= mold....drop the tank and your problems should be fixed. why do you have them in there anyways? is that supposed to be your room?....your lights need an upgrade too, one cfl (if that even is one) isnt enough esp at that height.

Cheers, the reason there in the tank is due to not having the money to buy a wardrobe, there is a intake vent at the the bottom of the tank, and a outtake vent at the top drawing air out, I have got to put a circulation fan in but the other reason it's all in there is due to heat, in my flat it's very cold and so they would be more likely to catch flu than grow. I was recomended to use the tank by a hydro shop to help keep in, but they said to make sure it was very well vented.. The fan is more than enough powerful, but I'll try and get a circulation fan in tonight for it. As for light's it's just a 40w spot lamp, it really isn't idea but for the time being it's the best I could do, I've got my eye's on some different lights online, but could be a while yet till I can get them. whould it be worth raising the level of the plants off though?

that light is doing nothing for the setup except adding heat..you need a cfl with a blue spectrum (3$)... when u get a proper cfl setup (more the better) bring the plants nice and close to them, cfls can burn plants so dont touch the light diectly, but get it close. cop a thermometer and check the ambient temps in the room,. how cold is cold? like its frigid in the room? you should really see the temp diff btw the aquarium and reg room, bc i doubt they are crazily different. seems like its just bumping up your humidity w/ no benfits...+ your plant swill prb pop out the top eventually unless you go 12/12 from seed
