Mother plants

I have heard two arguments. One that says that you can take clones from a plant in veg state before flowering. The other says that mother plants are absolutely essential for cloning and need to be at least 8 weeks old. Which is true or do they both work?

How many watts of T5 or feliz cfl would I need to keep 5 small mothers, say 12-18".:dunce:

Taking from a vegging plant is always better.
Taking from a mature plant is better but not an absolute, you can take cuts from a plant at any stage of it's life.
I don't keep moms I take cuts from each successive gen of plants.
Before some retard comes in with the "genetic drift" line O shit let me address this.
As long as the plant having the cuttings taken from is healthy the succeeding plants will be also.
I have seen the same plant done this way since 86 with zero problems.
Essentially it'a a matter of personal preferance regards what werks bestest for you.

My only worry is adding one more 150 watt cfl to do mothers as I am running 800/day and 400/night and do not want to draw attention.

So this is my first time using clones from KILLER seed and I practiced on bagseed til I got it down, so They will root.
Also, just so I'm understanding you. I can clone after clone after clone and so on with out degeneration in quality at all as long as I care for them properly?

Both will work, your call.

I keep host plants (mothers).

They don't need much light, T-12's will work. I also sometimes put them under a TEK-2 (2-2' PL-L 55w HO T-5 from HTG). It's way more than enough, but mainly used for vegging. Still, it's 110w and less than the 160w the 4-T12's pull with WAY more light.

Read up on Bonsai moms and LST.
