moms way too big. how much can I cut them back?

They are over 6 feet tall in water farm buckets. I need to cut them down to 3.5-4'.
Is this doable?
Also should I prune the roots at the time I do this?

Sure Why not, just top her and take all those branches and do your best to clone them, wait on the roots a few weeks so Mom can recover.

Dood, you can chop them however you want. MJ is a weed that is very strong and resiliant. Go ahead and prune them back, but be prepared for them to bush the hell out. If you stress them too much you run the possibility of a transexual...crossdresser

Yes, I DON'T want either of those two things to happen, or to degrade the genetics from stress.

They just got way too big on me. My light is up as far as it will go, and they just started to burn some leaves.
