Didn't you keep an eye on it and burp your jar now and then? sorry to hear of your loss.

All may not be lost

A friend of mine grows a lot I mean he has stuff growing every where

A few times he`s found ounces of bud he just plain forgot he every had and yeah he`s found them all rotten before

He just takes the mouldy bud and puts it in booze he likes to use bourbon, give it a good shake every day or 2 and in a week or 2 it`s ready to drink

but I would advice you get some kind of idea on what that mold is before you go eating or drinking it.

I don't think it has spider mites, but all I have is a magnifying glass, for now. Got a USB microscope, and a handheld, coming in a couple days. When the scopes come in I'll take a closer look and post some more pics.

Obviously, I jarred them too soon...but what really threw me, because I usually gauge the curing by smell, is that I'd used a pickle jar that still had the smell of pickle in it. So, I wasn't able to acurately gauge the smell. By the time that musty smell became noticeable, it was too late.

Fortunately I have another jar of bud that smells fine and seems to be cured correctly...no mold. But I"m watching that one like a hawk!

On the one hand I kinda don't care because it wasn't a very good strain, a weak buzz, and I picked early which didn't help. What sucks, regardless of potency, or the lack thereof, is that in about a month I'm gonna have to start making calls to score some street bud. I haven't had to do that in a while and I'm not looking forward to chasing connects again. Being independant is great! Even if it costs as much or more to get going. Hopefully, I'll come across some better quality seeds though. I think this strain is a bit weak.

My first grow I started back in March, which happened to be the first grow I've done in many years, had all kinds of problems. Mostly of my own doing, particularly overwatering and pH. I was using Miracle Grow potting soil, which some people seem to do ok with. I, on the other hand, had deficiencies with some plants and others were being burned to the point of death with no additional nutes.

Out of 10 seedlings (bagseed) 4 were male, 2 died in infancy, and the remaining 4 were problematic, never quite growing right. Unfortunately, the most promising ones, a pair of Sativa dominant strains that were growing great in the MG, were among the males. I used one of them to pollinate the lower branches of the remaining indica dominant plants before killing it off. (Saved a couple of leaves for posterity.)

The moldy buds came from one of the two surviving plants I re-vegged. It was the better of the two, but still a bit weak.

Oh well... I bought 1/8th of really high quality street bud several years back that cost me $100...put it in a jar with a humidity puck to keep it from drying out...they molded too. That was a REAL loss!!!

Now I've got 10 hybrid seedlings growing nicely in FF Ocean Forest / Happy Frog (50/50 mix), plus a couple more random bagseed. I'm gonna have to do a bit of reading about drying/curing, to shore up my olfactory senses.

First, welcome to riu, your friend is abt right but I wouldn't wait a couple of days befor burping the jar, do it daily 'till you feel the bud is dry enough to smoke, next time it's best to put it in a bigger jar and buy a cheep hygrometer to keep track of the moisture content. you can buy a cheep hygrometer at your local tobacco shop or cigar shop, or you can get a digital one at walmart or on line. you want your bud to be 55% to 60% moisture content.....hope this helps.

first off, if it smells like kat shit, it may be kat shit.

if its wet, let it dry out a bit...what does it smell like?

when you put it in the jar don't put the lid on it for a day or so...
what does it smell like? good? bad? musty?
if it smells good keep the lid on it.
if it smells musty take it out of the jar and let it dry some more.

don't smoke anything that doesn't smell right

That might be the worst advice I've ever heard on this forum.

Don't drink/eat mold.

@ OP:

Your bud looks airy and untrimmed, perhaps it's just because you're new to growing but you should be careful about putting too much leaf material into curing jars.
You should always trim before you cure.

You should dry the weed in a slow and steady pace (around 7 days) to allow for proper breakdown of substances in the plant material.
If you have the money (about $10), get a hygrometer to measure the RH that'll make it a lot easier for you to control the process.

And finally, remember to burp the jars.

Uh, yeah. There was never a question about 'eating or drinking' moldy bud. It's compost.

It was harvested early, unfortunately (hense the light-airy buds), and wasn't trimmed down enough, but as I recall, those untrimmed leaves had lots of resin glands on them nearer to the bud, and it really did smell good.

Still learning, though. I'll have to try to find a hygrometer for the next harvest, which will likely be January-ish.

Here's some pics of the new crop about three weeks since germ:
100_2172.jpg100_2173.jpg100_2174.jpg

The four on either end are hybrids...Sativa dominant male, Indica dominant Female from the first grow... They were bagseed so the strain is unknown. The middle two are random bagseed (got a lot of that, lol). Started with 10 in the hopes of getting 4-5 females.
They're about ready to be topped for the first time. Once they get about 10-12" tall I'll switch over to 12/12... I'm guessing about a couple weeks or so, though topping will certainly slow veritcal growth.

.. The guy I quoted in my post (the konassure) talked about how you could put the moldy bud in alcohol and then drink it afterwards.
That's why I quoted him and why I pointed out that it's not a good idea.
There's no reason to act so defensively, I'm trying to help you guys by letting you know that eating/drinking mold is NEVER a good idea, no matter how you do it.
