Molasses Disaster!!!!!!!!

Mr I Can Do That For Half
Well I just checked my grow out as lights are on been 2 days since molasses went into the aero system and I have 1 thing to say...DO NOT DO IT DO NOT PUT IT IN AN AERO SYSTEM!!!!It clogged all my misters and Im right now trying to figure out what to do as getting into the chambers at this point is gonna be almost impossible with the root growth.Im so just ready to freak out.My entire res is a hug froth of crap brown and foam.I may have just blown my whole grow.AGAIN DO NOT USE THIS STUFF IN AN AEROPONICS SETUP OR IF YOU DO DO IT SMALL!!!I went 2 table spoons per gallon in a 25 gallon res and Im going in now to try and bail the res and see if any chance to save the grow:spew: :spew: :spew: :spew:

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

I wish I could help.

Molasses cleans lots of stuff but I can't find nothing on how to clean molasses

yup my friend had a similar problem with his aeroponics setup and molasses, he just took all his baskets out and packed the roots in wet perlite for a day or 2 while he used vinigar to melt the chuncks of crap stuck in the misters , then he flushed the whole thing out with a high ph water solution and washed it all out with fresh water again put it all back togeather again and it continued without any problems.

Ok update.I just bailed the entire 30 gallons out of the res did a quick wipe yanked the pump and filter bag.The bag was full of slimey sticky goo.I ran bucket after bucket of water to res.Plants were falling over so had to put some quick stakes up and string.Flushed pump refilled res slammed the pump on ful blast I heard mister pop and heard spraying again.I had to dump water by the cup full in each net pot between bucket loads as the plants were not doing well in a short pump off period.I have the system running with fingers crossed just plain water gonna flush the whole setup for 2 cycle or 2 days and monitor how it goes.I cut co2 off and going to drop temps some and hope and pray recovery comes and if I am lucky by any chance and they survive I will drain setup again after system cleans and start res over with NO MOLASSES!!! Guess I should have known when best I could get was..should be fine in an aero setup....dirt or bubble ponics or flood only I see.Back to sweet and carbo loadonly screw molasses!!!Ill repost as this developes Im so ready to puke at this situation 4 weeks from harvest grrrrrrr

Wish I could get plants out they are so rooted in there they all grew roots together and are like 8 feet long I cant even get the baskets to lift more then 1/2 inch up.Just enought they can lean apparently

He just IM'd me to tell me to add use straight vinigar in place of the nutrient solution for the flush dont water it down as it isnt strong enough to melt it even 50 % vinigar 50% water must be straight to melt the molasses

damn dude sounds like u might have to give em a trim and stick em under fluro's for a week or 2 and try again, or try and work out how to turn it into a flood and drain system temporarely till u fiunish ur grow some how maybe ? i dont know what ur setup is like and if it is possible but might be worth a thought?

I got it going I got lucky that shit was only in for 2 days.Seems what was happening is it foamed up and that shit slowly was cutting sprayers and clogging filter.Im ran some fresh water after a good pump scrub without the filter andheard the sprayers kick and pop on and its running now the return tubes are now pumping full blast so looks like they are working or at least most. The plants are straightening up already but the clean water is brown again like river water with froth starting on top so looks like I will be doing a few res changes tonight before lights off.I caught it just in time as I dont know how long they were not pumping.I checked last night seems ok little drop figure it was the heat but then tonight I went in after a co2 exhaust and the pump was humming and white froth was in the up tube and nothing was coming from the drains.I hope they can handle this flush and stress as I will beat Grandmas Molassas ass for not stopping me on this one.It amazed me how quick the plants get limp without the misters though.Next system design Im building a back up misting setup with 1/4 inch holes from the to[ with small tub top misters with a small pump for backup ready to plug in, just in case.I need a blunt but gotta keep a clear head for next round of cleaning..

damn dude that would have been the 1st thing i would have tried before taking time out to surf the net lol. plants are too prescious to loose the adrenalin would have kicked in for me and no time for net just immediate action lol :-)

I got convinced by few people it was the way to go.Usually i would use Sweet and carbo load in past ebba and flow setups or soil but I went aero and never had a problem but let my curiosity get to me and mixed the molasses in instead and I paid for it.I think I might make it through water is rushing through tubes again and plants are back upright to lights but that scared the hell out of me for sure

I feel for you man, that really sucks!!....lovely setup too. Sounds like you're getting it sorted though. Best of luck man, I hope your ladies are ok. I'm about 4-6 weeks from finishing myself and would go crazy if anything went wrong with them now.

I actually had a power cut last night. I shit myself, looked at the clock and breathed a huge sigh of relief that it was just after 7pm and my lights were out anyway, thank fuck! But if that happened in the middle of the day, it could screw things up real bad!

Yeah I have been thinking about it.I think a day eearly in dark they might make it but without water your done in aero.I have been thinking about that and this just makes it final.I am doing the back up mini misters in the next version of this setup and a small pump I can run off a car battery that I will keep charging near the grow area with a clip on dc converter that way I can run a back up pump if power goes out for about a day or if the main misters clog I can hit the backups til I get it sorted out. Thanks for the wishes of luck

I like your thinking with the backup system on a car battery. I'm growing in soil, so hadn't even thought of your pumps and stuff. Like you say, without water, your totally screwed man.

One other option you could consider, depending on your budget, is running your power through a UPS (uninterruptible power supply)...they are used for computers/servers and shit to keep them running in the event of power problems. You get them in varying sizes from very small to very big. A small one probably wouldn't run your lights for that long, but it would keep your pumps going for AGES dude.

Something like this maybe.....

MGE Pulsar Eclipse ASR 375 Uninterruptible Power Supply Unit - IEC Sockets

you could even configure alerts to send an SMS to your mobile if there are any power problems!

That might be something for me to look into as a good battery will be around $70 then the dc convertor is about $25 so price may be the same .Thanks for the idea will check into it

will that stuff Sweet by botanicare do the same things as molasses water to an aeroponic mister? I am going to buy a aero set up soon and was planning on using it but now I don't know...
