hey everyone im srarting a grow soon and planning on growing my plants at about 60 inches total height and im going have a 600 watt hps grow light just wondering what should the minimum height should the plant and the light should be?:blsmoke:

I guess you'll be fine, I hope your considering LST'ing.
Anyway to answer you question. The general rule once your plants are big enough is to keep light close as possible to plants without burning them.
My 600 is 12 inches right now but I have an air cooled hood.
Feel with the back of your hand to where the light is not warm enough to burn you and it should be good. I'm guessing 18-22 inches with no fan.
Closer is better as far as usable light/lumens.

well im going to have 2 fans going in the closet so do you think 12 inches will be good? how close do you think it would have to be to burn a plant I also have an air cooled hood with 2 fans so......

I would start at 20 inches assuming these aren't seedlings. If they are seedlings then maybe 3 ft.
Like I said hold your hand under the light and find where it doesn't feel too warm, it will be a good starting place.
Everyones grow room is different venting. location, fresh air intake......
As your plants mature you will be able to adjust the light closer to the plants. 5 foot plants seem kinda big for an indoor grow though as light will only penetrate the canopy 12-18 inches.

well im trying to get a good yield lol this grow is costing me about 620 dollars. how big do you think I should grow them to?

I'm not sure how youre getting to $620.00
600 watt digital switchable with two bulbs hps/mh delivered about $250.00 e-bay
Decent in-line fan $125.00
Genetics/seeds $50.00
Grow medium pots and nutes $100.00
Looks like about $475.00 to me
$25.00 for misc. so $500.00

Anyway I grow mine to 15-24-inches before switching to flowering mode.

320 for my electronic ballast 600 watt hps grow light with an mh bulb also seeds and shipping 60 45 for nutes perlite 25 organic soil 50 3 pots plus shipping on the light

and how tall are yours when done? im growing seedsman white widow and im trying to get a pretty good yield I think I might put them into flowering at like 20-25 inches how much do you yield dry per plant with your 600 watt hps at 15-24?

Boy, you seem to have a lot of questions for everyone? I guess your just a little pumped, slow down you have time. Did you already buy the light because I got my 600 watt digital mh/hps switchable with two bulbs and a hood for $212.00 delivered to my door. They are not the best bulbs but you could upgrade after your first harvest.
I know your concerned with yield, The gold standard is 1 gram for each watt, you will probably not attain this your first few grows. More is possible but less is the rule.
So lets go with 200 grams (good Karma) if you were to grow your 5 plants to 24 inches in veg. The 7 gallon container are bigger than you need indoors.
I wish you luck with your grow and you should study a couple 600 watt grow journals while you wait for your gear. I said study not question everything OK?
Good luck bro.

ok thanks ive gone over alot of what you just sent me and there are a few very important question I have unanswered lol

The closer you can get your light, the more usable lumens are available to the top, or canopy of the plant. Try using a light mover. I have seen 1000w HPS less than a few inches from the tops of clones, on a light mover! If you have plenty or moving air, the less worry for burning tops.

Dude the answers are in here, ya just gotta look a little.
This place has way more answers, than people to answer them.Cool.
