Not using gravitas. Haven't had any experience with them,and I've heard fire! I like,my hids for now until further experience. The one I am looking at is approx 1500.

Yes, but...
1) the compressor emits lots of warm air. If your basement or attic is not well ventilated there may be a problem with heat buildup. I've seen some small warehouse grows with interior buildouts and the compressors on top. I've know at least two of the operations that had problems with their mini-splits.
2) above problems may have been more related to cheap Chinese junk than the heat. Stay away from anything that does not use Japanese compressors AND control circuitry. Stick with Frederich, Samsung, Sanyo & Fujitsu or another high-quality unit. You'll pay more up front but it will pay off over time with less problems and more consistent performance.

That and longer line set cost a fucking ton of coin. The further you move one unit from the other the more it's gonna cost you.

If the outdoor unit is in an area where the heat builds up, it will shut off to protect itself. It will run the fan alot more, the compressor will get hotter. Ive done this with mini splits and window units, exhausting that heat is crazy. Needless to say I do not do that now. GL
